Animal Science major -- chances?

Is it unwise to apply to only four or five universities? I want to major in animal science or animal biology (planning to become a vet) and would prefer to stay in California, but there aren't that many schools here that have those majors. I'm not, however, adverse to going out-of-state.

Right now I plan to apply – or have already applied – to the following schools:

UCD
UCSB
Cal Poly SLO
Cal Poly Pomona

Are there any others that might fit?

Extracurriculars
Will this hurt my chances? I didn’t really get involved with much and wasn’t exactly consistent, but… here they are.
– KIWIN’s (9-10)
– CSF (9-12)
– American Heart Association (12)

What else do they consider besides ECs, sports, and/or work? I’ve done other things, but I don’t know if they’d care to hear about them.

Thanks.

UCSB/UCD: Safety

I would suggest Cornell, even though it is very very far.

I've considered Cornell, but I don't think I can get in.

Penn State is known for having a good animal science major. Again, being on the east coast - it's very far from CA.

I thinking about becomming a vet too...
UC Davis has a excellent pre-vet program.
You should volunteer in local animal hospitals or zoo.
They check those stuffs when you apply to vet schools.
And i think you need to work on ur math...
