We just saw this yesterday. Is this movie at all accurate?

No lots of inaccuracies to say the least

Oh my...not accurate at all! It is actually a terrible portrayal. As a matter of fact the Naval Academy refused to allow them to film at the academy. Just a few things: the company commander would never be another midshipman, it would be a junior officer (an adult with a commission who is not a student at the academy) typically a navy LT or a Marine Corps Captain. Plebes and upperclassmen would not have an open relationship (kissing in the "yard" would not happen). The whole boxing thing, don't get me started. The majority of the things that were done would be called hazing and it is illegal (the abuse of the plebes verbal and physical). It was a boxing movie, not a movie about Naval Academy life or experience at all. They were trying to re-create An Officer and a Gentleman and set it at Annapolis--they failed. There are plenty of reviews out there.

Got that one backwards. The company Commander is a first class Midshipman. The Company officer is just that, a commissioned officer in either the Navy or Marine Corps.

I heard that someone was making a new movie this past year about Navy crew and that it was being filmed at the academy. I don't know if it is about one of the historical navy crew teams that went to the olympics or if it is a movie about the current crew program - which is awesome, too!

Has the Academy itself released any documentary on the lives of Midshipmen? I remember seeing one on the AFA before.
