Movie: Annapolis

So I just watched the movie Annapolis, how much if it is actually realistic?

none of it. there's a reason it wasn't filmed at the academy.

thanks, thats good to know. i'm going to NASS, and i saw it with my friends, and they all kind of flipped out after watching it.

yeah, I love the part where they're in front of "bancroft" and the steps are like ten feet wide! Yeah that shipyard he looks at is really the chesapeake bay. and some of the rates I believe are wrong, like doesn't the triton light have water from 22 seas not 7. totally unrealistic! but I liked the story:)

"50,000 young men and women applied to this Academy. Only 1,200 were deemed worthy to pass through these gates. Most of you will not make it."

oh boy :)

The trailer was better than the actual movie.

It's not realistic and all and the overall plot was dull. Plus all of the inaccuracies make it painful to watch (Walberg's character goes from a LCDR at the begining to a LT at the end, what's up with that?) Bad movie all the way around in my opinion.

LT at the end? I thought he was wearing LCDR insignia still. I think the problem is that he is still an LCDR, but he refers to himself as a 38 yo LT when he is sparring when he is supposed to have said 38 yo LCDR.

i've seen it several times ;) LOL.

I remember when I was talking to some about applying and she was like, Just remember it's not like the MOVIE Annapolis. When I told her I hadn't seen it, she was like, Oh thank god.

Yeah, its weird. He's wearing LCDR shoulder boards and calling himself a LCDR at the begining. Then he starts refering to himself as a LT and is wearing LT shoulder boards when they get back from Christmas leave. Then he starts wearing LCDR shoulder boards and calling himself a LT.

that movie is so bad. hardly a piece of factual info in it...

now that is clearly an exageration, or should i list some of what i believe is factual from the movie? i have a copy of the movie so when i get home, i'd be happy to list the 1st 50 things i believe are factual from the movie if you are doubtful. i think it should take all of 5mins.

i'm not going to defend the movie as good, although i personally liked it a lot, but i think a statement like that is going too far on purpose.

Well, when it came out, the Academy put out a disclaimer that it was neither endorsed nor factual. The military and academy setting was an afterthought. It was not even originally written to have an academy setting. I haven't seen it. I have never heard anyone who saw it and had knowledge of the Academy claim any factual information.

the part where the firstie and the plebe fall in love - that's the factual part. lol.

but seriously, how could they leave out football season?!?!

imdb.com keeps a list of factual errors. it is actually rather short for this movie. if you find factual errors not on this list, they can be added by imdb.com.

Annapolis (2006) - Goofs

this is not to say other things can't be ridiculous or silly (such as the love affair) but that doesn't mean they are necessarily a "factual error."

post some factual errors from the movie that aren't already on the imdb list and i'll be the first to pass them along to imdb.com.

t-court isn't covered in grass.
plebes sit during the induction ceremony (there are no chairs in the movie).
plebes don't leave their parents at the gate on I-Day.
where is Herndon? i was under the impression the hat toss didn't come until graduation.
i could be wrong on this one, but i was also under the impression that Marine Corps graduates don't leave all together on a bus right after graduation (by the way, there wasn't even a graduation).

When I saw Memorial Hall, I LOL'd and ROFL'd so hard.

Nothing CLOSE to the real thing.

So, are there any accurate movies about the Academy or Navy in general?

Top Gun. :P

One thing that always bugged me in Annapolis is that when they were jogging in place with rifles over their heads, a firstie calls "At ease!" and they go directly to at ease.

I'm pretty sure that's not the correct sequence to stop an exercise.

You could always youtube the naval academy if you want to see snipets of things. I watched a video that I think was made from Sea Trials, I believe...

The most accurate thing I've seen was something that my friend's Mom showed me. His brother graduated the class of '06 and I guess she got some sort of documentary video from Plebe Summer. But, then again, those aren't movies.

Of all the stuff that goes on in the movie, I'd say maybe 1% of it is true.

Moreover, the fact that USNA and the DON decided not to endorse the movie after they received a copy of the script shows you how inaccurate the movie is.

DSL, you can't assume that just because there isn't a listing of 1,000+ errors on IMDB that the movie is factual. Remember, people must have seen the movie, experienced the Academy, and visited IMDB for that information to get there. Who knows if the people that posted there have even experienced 4-years on the Severn.
