Annoying Overachievers

I don't think there's such as thing as "overachieving," really. Achievement is good; rubbing it in people's faces is bad, but has nothing to do with the achievement itself. Achieving is really only "over" achieving when it takes over someone's life and creates health/ psychological problems, or when people sacrifice tons to reach an unattainable goal... but really, most of the time the term "overachiever" is just coined by other people who can't fathom achieving the same thing. It's sort of a justification-- I'm jealous, but they're "over" achieving anyway. It's not like I need to be like that.

Which is a good opinion to have, but you wouldn't need to talk about it if you didn't feel inadequate about their achievement in the first place, lol.

Edit: "You," is the general you. Not directed to anyone.

to the guy above who said anyone who gets a 36 does no work and is incredibly lazy - i disagree. i believe working hard for the past few years has given me the 36, rather than intelligence.

There are two girls in my senior class that refursed to join National Honor Society because they were 'too good for it'. I mean come on... it's the best students in the united states!... talk about inflated ego!

one girl who graduated last year kept bragging about how she was accepted to HYPS, but decided to go to the flagship state school because she thought "ivy-league education was overrated." her sister was fed up and posted the rejection letters on facebook. ouch

UGH.

There is this kid in my Bible Lit and choir classes, and seriously, every time he opens his mouth we all just sigh and roll our eyes. I swear he never uses a word that has less than 6 syllables in it.

my (asian) dad has always told me...there's all kinds of ppl out there, you just gotta learn to deal with em.
think about it.

i agree with what FellowCCViewer said, but I also think its good to havea thread where ppl can vent about annoying overachievers.

"when i freak out before a quiz/test and say something like "omg im gonna fail!", she'd be like "yeah, you will fail. dont worry.""

Haha good one (I'm referring to the comeback by the unnamed person). The people who freak out before the tests bother me. Coincidentally they are also all girls who tend to be uptight overachievers. Why can't they just chill out; no amount of freaking out will increase their grade.

Teacher: "For the 4th quarter we will no longer do current event reports."
Girl with 99 average and no life: "But they were good for my grade."

Its always refreshing when I have teachers who tell these type of people to shut up or refuse to "hold their hand"
Let me say something about street smarts vs. academic smarts.
There are three types of intelligences (i'm almost making this up):
Emotional Intelligence (this is real), Practical Intelligence (not sure what this consists of), and Fluid Intelligence (intellect).
There are people with high fluid intelligence but lack intelligence in the other 2 areas. That is why some one with a 4.0 can be an idiot.

*If my post has offended you in any way please feel free to bash it

hmm i'd say i'm pretty intelligent at least not below average but i am the biggest idiot ever ^_^

One of my friends has a lot of emotional and practical intelligence, as Dispatche would say, but she isn't very academically inclined. It's not that she doesn't try, it's just that the information doesn't soak in when she tries. She works very hard, though, and thinks in an unusual way.

Also, more related to the original post, the overachievers in my school are actually both male. They're extremely snoopy about grades, always making sure that others did not do better than them on tests. It's kind of annoying, but they're not that bad.

One of them is very discreet about it, and the other did not hound me after I told him that my test grade was none of his business. Plus, they are not so blunt in their bragging, so it's much more tolerable. Neither of them would condescendingly ask someone if he or she was even going to college, except for in a facetious manner. :)

Val: 4.3WGPA, no life, sits at home, studying (no, not asian)
Sal: 4.1WGPA, plays PSP GTA and Guitar Hero, very social.

I think that should be enough diversity for today.

triple posts FTMFL

GTA sucks, MGS4 is going to win GOTY

The val and sal at my school both have an UW 4.0 and are gym rats. Go figure.

stop it with asian stereotypes!!!!!!!!!!!!

uggg...I know a perfect example of this type of situation! at my school, there are two people going for the valedictorian position. one is this annoying indian kid who rubs all his accomplishments in people's faces...the other one is this sweet asian girl who is really modest and humble. the asian girl has a lot more accomplishments than this kid (valedictorian for three years running, student counsil officer, national merit scholar, popular, etc.), while the guy antagonizes everyone else...well, guess what? the girl got accepted to yale and rice early, and the guy has already been rejected from several ivies! lols...i guess it's just payback...

a good 80% of the people posting in this thread, complaining about overachievers are probably overachievers themselves. (including me, except im not complaining about overachievers. haha.)

[not meant to be offensive]

Lol, wait, our val got rejected from Ivies, altindiegirl? I thought he was just too lazy to apply.

Which ones?

Which is why the 20% have to stand strong, stand proud.

Who's with me??!

Alex

haha...yeah, someone told me this in passing, but I'm not sure its true...although it would be hilarious!!
