(I know there is another thread similar to this one... but it deals with some person deliberating as to whether or not taking the ACT again to bump their grade up from a 35)

Now, I took the ACT in February for the first time and got a 32 (Technically a 31.5)
E 30, M 32, R 31, S 34.
I took it again this April and received a 33. (Or a 33.25)
E 36, M 34, R 33, S 30
I messed up on Science, obviously.

For some reason my mom is absolutely CONVINCED and will not settle for anything less than a 34. I honestly do not think that I should have to sit through another 4 hour test just so I can raise my score that 1/4 of a point to get it bumped up to a 34. I'm perfectly content with a score of a 33. My mother, however, heard some UIUC speaker say that there was an honors program for well-qualified students. And thinks that a 34 will help me get into that program. (Why not a 33?!)

I'm thinking of applying to business school (probably UIUC and a few reach schools) next year where the average ACT is supposedly around ~30+. I'll probably send in both my scores. It looks better that way. :P But will a 34 really benefit me that much?

Have a look at the schools you are interested in and see if it makes a difference to honors or scholarships. A 33 is very good so it may or may not make a difference.

My daughter retook it after graduation to try and get a better scholarship - she increased her score enough to get almost $4000 a year more in scholarship money. her school had a list of their scholarships and what scored were needed to get them.

If the schools you are interested in have some possible benefit that the extra point would gain for you (horrible sentence but I am tired) then it may be worth the retake. My daughter was not enthused about retaking it but she does like that scholarship!!

Bleh... 4 more hours seems like a waste.... 32 is a good score. But, since you're here asking the question I'm sure you'll actually retake it. good luck

I got a 32 the first time and I got a 33 the second time. I think you missed my point...

agree with swimcatsmom. Search the UI website to see if they post criteria for admission to the honors program. At some colleges, Miami for example, the difference between a 33 and a 34 can be several thousands $ per year in additional scholarship money.

btw: I don't believe sending both scores "looks better." I can assure you that the publics just don't care.
