Another Application Requirement Recently Shows

My daughter checks her online candidate information daily....or probably more than daily if she would admit to it. Everything had shown "completed" or "received" (I don't know the exact format memorized......her candidate profile is her domain) until last Friday, Feb. 8th. Now, the high school information (I think it was activities or academics) there was a notation "waiting for information from Barbara XXXXX." Barbara XXXXX is the person at my daughter's high school who sends out transcripts to the colleges. Mind you, this was not on the "high school transcript" line. It was an item listed just above the high school transcript. And this is new....previously it showed the date received.

Is it common for the academy to ask for additional or updated information or forms? She did send in a sealed/certified copy of her transcript several weeks ago and the updated transcript date is indicated under the high school transcript. But this is not the transcript item. It is another requirement. So is the academy asking for additional information/clarification?

I take this as a good sign in that she hasn't been disqualified completely yet and that the academy is asking for more to consider her for appointment or possibly for NAPS.

Has anyone else noticed this on their/their child's online candidate info?

Thoughts?

Son's account doesn't show anything similar, just that his mid-year transcript was received and documented on Feb 1.

He's 3Q'd with 2 noms, waiting on appt, just got USMA appt. Online status hasn't changed since that Feb 1. thing. And yeah, it gets checked a lot around here too!

7th semester transcripts are required for all candidates. Final transcripts are also required from those candidates who accept their offer of appointment.

If you look under "Candidate Bulletins" at the top of the CIS page you'll find this note, dated Feb-11-2008:

**
The Candidate Information System (CIS) now lists "Candidate Academic Information" as a required document. The Candidate Academic Information document is filled out by your guidance counselor. If your required documents section indicates "not received", this WILL NOT affect your offer status. Also, this WILL NOT prevent your record from being reviewed by the admissions board. For those candidates who reapply for next year's class, this document WILL be required for your application to be reviewed by the admissions board.

My daughters Documents actually show a new line, Candidate Academic Information, but it says it was received January 30th.

My son has this new line as well. I assume since they do everything on line, they are simply requesting 7th semester grades. Son had to take a card in to fill out for WP. This line on CIS is not crucial to appt, as son already has an appointment.

My son also has the new line... showing the date that his counselor originally sent the information back in the summer of 07. I've got a question about the 7th semester and final transcripts... does Admissions make an request to the candidate for these or do they make the request directly to the high school?

Are 7th semester grades required for an appointment to be offered?

Everyone has (or should have) the new line. As mentioned in an earlier post, there is a new form that will be mandatory for c/o 2013.

what does this form entail? on my CIS file it has the date that my high school counselor sent in the other information back in september...

also, i did well this past quarter to finish out my first semester with strong grades and was wondering if it would help my whole candidate score(?) or at least draw positive attention to my candidate file if i sent it in. I'm already triple qualified, so i am wondering if this would make any difference at all however. I've asked my BGO and he has yet to reply to me on this issue...any other candidates/BGOs on this forum, any advice would be much appreciated!

so does this just mean that I have to send in my 7th semester grades? or I am fine since I have an appointment?

I suspect the "new liners" as here described are "bubble" candidates. Everyone does NOT have a new line. For what it is worth. And for the poster that already has an "appointment"......relax........all this is meaningless to you unless you trash your last semester which is highly unlikely......

No need to speculate folks. It was something prematurely added for the Class of 2013. This should have appeared in each candidate's CIS file as of yesterday:

My son said his CIS shows the new line and is dated August - the date his high school counselor returned the email sent by admissions. I think he verified my son's grades, honors, and ECAs. I agree with USNA69 that no one should think this has anything to do with bubble candidates. . . many appointments to come.

Some showed it completed when the school package was submitted and some show it still incomplete. It has something to do with assisting the Academy to determine class standing. Beyond that, anything on my part would be pure speculation.

This is the 'official notification' that we BGOs just received. Please note, they encourage all 2012's to complete and it will be a formal part for the 2013s to complete.

"The Candidate Information System (CIS) now lists "Candidate Academic Information" as a required document. The Candidate Academic Information document is filled out by the Guidance counselor. This document is used with the high school transcript to determine rank in class. This may cause your candidates' package completion percentage to decrease if they have not yet completed it. Please advise your candidates that if it indicates "not received", this will not affect their offer status, but every effort should be made to complete it. For the Class of 2012, the Office of Admissions will not hold the record from the Admissions board if not completed. "

It is the candidate's responsibility to request that their 7th semester as well as final transcripts be sent to Admissions.

PS: PLEASE! If you are a candidate who has made the decision to NOT pursue an appointment, PLEASE notify admissions that you are withdrawing from the process (BGOs are not permitted to list you as withdrawn, you must make the contact). Your status needs to be updated so that we (BGOs) do not continue to contact you about completing your application. Reminder: all items must be to Admissions by 1 March 2008.

Best wishes to all.

"It is the candidate's responsibility to request that their 7th semester as well as final transcripts be sent to Admissions."

Does this also apply to those candidates who have already received an appointment and accepted it?

My daughter that evening saw the bulletin and it provided additional information. So she emailed her admissions officer who asked for her counselor's email.

All is well.......and the waiting continues!

Thanks for the input, everyone.

MoMH

MomInPA: yes, even if they have received an appointment and accepted it. My advice is to prestamp and address two envelopes for the Guidance Department with a note requesting 7th semester and final transcripts be forwarded.

militarylife: Just checked his record on CIS today... it's showing 2/14/08 on the High School Transcript line, so it appears Admissions has received his 7th semester grades. His college counseling office has had a lot of experience with USNA, so I would not be surprised if they just send 7th semester grades as a matter of course. We'll follow up with them just to make sure.

Thanks for the information!
