Another BFA Acting Top 10 list

Best thing I ever bought my son was a slow-cooker. He cooks on Sunday and brings his lunch the rest of the week.

We bought D a slow cooker at a garage sale since she is renting a house with friends this year - but I don’t think she’s used it yet. She was cooking up a storm the first few weeks of school (I got pics of lots of dinners) but I’m wondering how that will go now that she will be in rehearsal from 6-10 every night until the Fall musical in November… She says the slow cooker requires too much “planning ahead”. So - yeah - we need a “meal planning” course in the MT curriculum! LOL

Good one @mom4bwayboy! Let’s add that to the ranking criteria. I think our methodology is probably way more relevant than any kind of ranking that for example looks # of grads on Broadway (for reasons including those mentioned above) or my personal favorite the very well known one that bases their ranking of best college theater on this (copying directly) Best College Theatre: Based on students’ answers to the survey question: “How do you rate your college’s theater productions?” I’m fairly sure if you asked this question to the majority of students at my daughter’s former university and many others like it they would answer n/a because they never actually saw a college theater production but even if they did, this survey doesn’t ask a thing about the actual program nor provide any basis for comparing one school vs. another.

Lists are just that. They are lists. Mine says I need more paper towels and orange juice at the moment. I hope that makes me #1 the grocery shopper category.

So funny @kategrizz! I wondered the same thing. I’m guessing the go-to until November will be eggs, cold cuts/cheese and apples! No pre-planning required but they’ll still need to go grocery shopping. I am anxious to see how the no swipes food plan works out.

I didn’t think he’d use it either, but he does. Amazing what happens when you start buying your own groceries and realize that you can live on $5 worth of dried beans for a month. More money for beer that way, definitely.

^^^ Hmmm, I wonder how lists would compare if students rated their own schools when they were “bright-eyed” freshmen vs. “jaded” juniors vs. “I-didn’t-sign-up-for-THIS” two years post-grad vs. “gray-beards” looking back on the “good old days” 15 years out?

@artskids Her no swipe meal plan will include lots of protein shakes I’m sure. She started those when some of the provided meals at summer stock were too full of pasta or heavy sauce, or mystery.

Michigan’s pre-screen apps were well over 1000… One of my sources said 1800 but it wasn’t an administrator who told me so I can’t verify. The applicants invited for a live audition numbered 400 or so. The school extended 24 initial offers. Three kids chose CMU over Michigan, one chose an Ivy, and one chose OU. They made some waiting list offers and now have a class of 23 – 10 women, 13 men – a good number from the Atlanta area and California – not sure what’s in the water there but, hey, that’s how it worked out. It’s exciting to see your kid’s school make the list but I couldn’t agree more with the idea that there are many great schools out there so it’s important not to let these lists limit the possibilities for anyone desiring a career in theatre.

@HappyDancer98 just curious? Where do you find out this information? I’m thinking your kid is one of the 24. Congratulations. That’s quite a feat!

She is! She’s there now, as we speak, settling in. Never in our wildest dreams did we think it would happen… The odds are so stacked against it. My best advice is to cast a very wide net, keep an open mind about programs, prepare enough so that your student will be comfortable enough to show the auditors who he/she is, and let the chips fall. I’m convinced that this whole process will remain one of the great mysteries in life.
