I'm currently a senior in high school and want to apply to Carnegie Mellon University for biological studies.

unfortunately, my resume is not the best it could be:

GPA: 4.1 (W) 3.6 (UW)
If CMU looks at first semester senior year, then that would definitely go up since i will most likely have a 4.4

ACT: 30

SAT II: 700 math
670 Bio

I have A LOT of community service, i dont know the exact number but its 250+ hours and MOST of it is related to health services.

I'm not in many clubs, but i have leadership roles, including being president of the pre-med club.

I also began a small local tutoring business over the summer.

Most of my ECs are somehow connected to medicine/health..so hopefully this shows CMU that i'm very dedicated and passionate about medicine.

So, what is your guys' opinions? Please give me as honest an opinion as possible. THANK YOU! :)

**p.s. i live out of state and i am asian indian..if that matter.

ALSO: i took a very rigorous course load, which may have not been the best choice as i got many B’s (which can be shown by my GPA) :(

well… it’s a good thing you show passion. It opens up a shot for CMU. But things don’t look promising. Write an inspirational essay on med or something. If you are aiming for a college in PA, LeHigh is the next best one (#35) and then theres Penn State (#50ish). You have a much better shot @ those schools.

chance me for CMU also!

I wouldn’t be shooting for CMU if I were you and wanted to go into medicine/biology. I’d be shooting for the University of Pittsburgh, but if you really wanna blow 15k more to go to a worse school (for that subject and assuming you’re OOS) then hey, it’s your call.

As for getting into CMU with those marks, I’d have to go with high match.

thanks! Isn’t LeHigh just as difficult to get into?

anyone else have some opinions?

Thanks to everyone who responded!

I have one question though (and i feel a little silly asking this); why do you guys mean when you say “high match”

ALSO, would i have a better chance if i apply ed EA?

bump bump bumppppp

bump??? anyone else?
