Another Chance thread..comments appreciated!

<p>Before considering the stats, I do want to mention that my grades were affected by a extenuating circumstance regarding family (Received a D in AP Chem) and guidance counselor mentioned the situation in her letter.</p>

<p>Honestly, nothing seems that good. But then again, HSS is the easiest, or one of the easier ones to get into. Any hooks?</p>

<p>Besides the Research Internship at Yale and leader positions in a few organizations, not really anything in the realm of URM etc…</p>

<p>Here’s the thing: you have a very unique situtation. You have some great extracurricular stuff and pretty solid scores, and then you have some GPA issues due to extenuating circumstances. No one here can really evaluate how an admissions counselor will look at you. I have a hard time seeing you get into MCS with a D in a science course, but I also don’t know why you recieved that grade. Individuals also never know what CMU might need in a particular year. If you offer them something they want, they will admit you. Chance me threads are rarely helpful, and in a situation like this, I don’t think anyone can provide great insight, aside from an admission counselor themselves. That being said, best of luck!!!</p>
