Hi guys - I'm a bit confused at my FA package and have some dumb questions. My apologies in advance.

First: I understand the scholarship recognition award is a one-time event, but the mouseover text says that students will be funded with university grants for the other three years - does that mean that amount will be replaced with a grant, or will my aid be reduced after freshman year?

Second: I have medical insurance through my dad's work, and I don't think I have "significant financial need" anyway (my dad makes 100k). Will the USHIP grant be automatically canceled, or am I supposed to waive it or something?

Finally, does the FA package usually vary from the ePAL, or is it usually pretty accurate? I don't imagine our FAFSA will change much.

Thank you!

First, your scholarship award will be replaced by a university grant. In your case, scholarship recognition award = university grant. I don’t even know why they call it an award, as any accepted student can get one, and amount varies. I think it’s just the schools ways of making the financial aid package pretty and making students feel accomplished. Who knows, maybe they have a fund from which they award scholarship recognition awards, but in succeeding years, in essence this award should be replaced by university grants and your aid amount may or may not change depending on your FAFSA data.

Secondly, you have to waive SHIP. It will not happen automatically, but it’s easy. You need to either waive it annually or quarterly. Check the UCLA student health website or any documentation you have about waiving SHIP.

Thirdly, the ePAL letter should look like what you will get on your eFAN (more official financial aid notification, “electronic financial aid notification”?).

Thank you! That all makes sense.
