Scholarship Recognition Award?

Well after checking my financial aid package and all, I noticed that along with my Federal Pell Grant that I also received the scholarship recognition award. This award is actually paying for the majority of my gift aid, and I need this money in order to continue attending UCLA for all 4 years. However, when I read the description, it stated that it would only last 1 year and that the years after that, university funds would cover it.

My question is, will university funds give me approximately the same amount? The SRA gives me about $13,000. The award is based on academics and on financial need, so yeah.

What's the composition of your financial aid package and what's your EFC?

In any case, page 5 answers your question. . .

It should be fine as long as your EFC consistently shows that you demonstrate need once the grants are replaced by "university grants."

I still don't understand what this means...do we get free money or something? Does everybody get this Scholarship Recognition Award?

by everybody I mean everybody who needs financial aid and has been accepted to UCLA

i got that award too!

LOL, perhaps people should post if they did NOT get that award (but applied for & qualified for need-based aid according to UCLA)

I never applied for anything...but supposedly, according to my ePAL, I'm getting $5,000+ for it. Sweet.

I think it's just their version of an institution grant. When I place my cursor over it, a little thing pops up and explains that it's to recognize the outstanding merit for having been accepted into UCLA.

"I think it's just their version of an institution grant."

No. Not according to the brochure (doc) that mme-lin posted. The "institution" (University) grant kicks in Year 2 and beyond. I.m.o., there are 2 reasons for the SRA:
(1) because the Cal Grant B is short on the first year, more generous on subsequent, I think it's UCLA's way of capturing that f.a. population that is high-achieving. (Grant B is the grant of choice for those who are likely admits to competitive privates as well as publics.) Lots of people would not enroll if they had to wait for Year 2 for more $ to kick in.
(2) Their version of "merit" scholarship? Hey, they get to play the game, too. (Just like privates.) ;)

Is there a fee waiver for the 100 dollar deposit for ucla?

i got it too for ~$5700. why does ucla give more aid than ucsd? i want to go to ucsd.

now why would you pick UCSD over ucla, you idiot?

ucla got hotter girls, better academics, dam better athletics...UNLESS

ur a ugly, dumb, and un-athletic person...

wow, thats just a tad bit mean.

well, it's in his nature to hate. duh.
