Another High ACT, Low GPA chance me!

I felt the last one was very cluttered and disorganized so here's another one.
I just got my Sept test scores and got a 32 composite- 33 Science, 32 Math, 31 Reading, 30 Writing compared to my last (28 C). I honestly have no idea how many schools to apply to since I have that risk... so here's my stats:

Background:
Hey guys, I'm a rising senior from NJ. I come from an Indian background. I'm looking to major in Business Administration, looking into International Business, Entrepreneurship, and Finance. (Dual Major between two of these three). I'm looking for a fairly large school. One in a city, and has a prevalent social scene. I don't care if it's private or public. I also wish it to have study abroad available as well.

Stats:
I have a very low GPA- 3.26, but because of my freshman year and adjusting to High School and a new system (I Studied abroad for a year before high school). I have shown an upward trend as well and an increasing rigor in classes. This year I'm taking AP Biology, English 12 H, Calc, Marketing and Entrepreneurship Honors, and Marketing Honors, as well as Phys. Ed and a study Hall. Last year I took AP Government and Politics and scored a 3 on the exam. My school also does not rank.

Extracurriculars and Activities:
GPA and Test Scores aside, I have an excellent resume and extracurriculars. I worked an internship with an Assemblyman running for Congress and planned a youth event for him, Planned an event for a volunteering service that raised over $108K, I created an organization out in India to help Orphaned HIV children and we got over 50 sponsors to sponsor each child for life, I pitched marketing ideas and building plans to a Mall and they are using them, I interned at medical offices as a network and healthcare administrator and I interned at a hotel to learn how to manage hospitality. I am a black belt in TaeKwonDo, captain of a demo team, captain of a tournament team that has won three championship cups over the last 3 years- regionally, nationally and internationally. Our coach is the head coach for the US Collegiate National TKD Team and also the head coach for the West Point and USMA TaeKwonDo teams. I also fluently speak and read and write two Indian languages- Hindi and Telugu, which I learned while I was studying abroad in India during 7th grade (as said above).

I know my GPA is low, but my essays and test scores are great! My personal statement is also awesome!

Schools (Definitely applying):
UT Austin (#1)
Northeastern (#2)
NYU (#3)
Drexel
University of Miami
UConn
U of Illinois
Pepperdine
Babson College
Boston U
Rutgers
Temple (Safety)

Maybe applying:
Villanova
GWU
Fordham
Indiana U- Bloomington
Penn State
JMU
Stony Brook
Syracuse
U Wisconsin Madison

Considering (also based off my last test scores and ALL are reaches):
USC
UNC
UVA
Boston College
Notre Dame

Let me know if I should remove, add, or consider anything! Thanks for chancing me!!

This is the old thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1392771-chance-me-low-gpa-high-act.html?highlight=32+act

JMU: Safety
BU: Match (as I said before, it’s no longer a reach)
Villanova: Low match
Fordham: Safety
Drexel: Safety (which one is better, Drexel or Temple?)
NYU: High match (reach if you wanted to enter Stern directly)
Northeastern: High match
UTA: High match
Rutgers: Low match (safety if you took any other major)

Thanks for that Catria!
And Drexel is better IMO. It has a better business program, plus Temple is not in the best neighborhood. Drexel has a better campus and nicer life.
Do you think I should try any of those reaches I’m considering?

IMO the only one out of these five that might be accessible is UNC.

Now, if you had to choose between Fordham, Villanova and Drexel, which one would you take?

What do you mean by accessible? Most likely?

A reach, mind you, but you wouldn’t stand a chance at the other four.

Alright, thanks for that. Although it is a reach, UNC has been my dream school (but not my number 1) because they’re my favorite sports team, great academics, and great nightlife and social scene. Same to be said with UT Austin.

Bump!!!

Bumpppp!!!

For what you’re aiming for - a BBA - you should rethink your schools. I attended Northeastern and through the coop system, your opps will be great. MAKE FULL USE OF THEM if you plan on going to this school. Study abroad, learning another language and do two coops. You will be absolutely set when coming out. And you will definitely get in here, no problem.

NYU Stern is a tough, tough school. But if you get in and do well, you are also set. But remember the global economy you are working with today. You want to focus your interests in east Asia, where the unemployment rate amongst youth (18-25)is the lowest in the world (9%) and opps are everywhere. NYU and Northeastern will be good for this.

Pepperdine is also a good bet, plus its in sunny Cali as oppose to miserably cold Boston. Avoid Drexel.

Babson is a fantastic school for entrepreneurship.

You have a shot at most of these schools (NYU, Boston U and Babson will arguably be the toughest from your 1st list)

3.26 is not THAT low, don’t listen to what people tell you, seriously. Just do better in college - you will, too, don’t worry. College is what you make of it. If I may quote one of my favorite quotes on college: “It doesn’t matter so much where you go to college as much as what you put into college.”

Having said that, yes, reputation is important.

You’ll be fine, if you’ve done your research and NEU is in your top 3 and you want to go there - I would say you’d get in.

Thanks a ton for chancing me markiv!!! Northeastern is actually my first choice school. I love what it has to offer academically and socially. It’s a great school and I plan on using the coop and study abroad system to it’s fullest by studying and working somewhere in Asia or Europe- either China, Korea or Spain (again my options are still open). I also have family and friends there. I love Boston as well and I’m used to cold since I’m already in NJ haha!

NYU is great, but it doesn’t have a “college feeling.” Pepperdine is going higher on my list as well as Babson. Drexel’s not so high, more of a fallback/target. What are the other schools I realistically have a chance of getting into?

And yes, my GPA is my low point, but I feel my test scores and essays along with my ECs and Personal statement will help me stand out and have a chance. I think I have a higher ceiling than any other kid coming into college because I have more motivation to do better. I didn’t at first, that’s why my GPA is so low. Now I’m more motivated, took higher classes and even brought up my ACT test scores (28->32). And most of this motivation is from NEU. I visited the school with my cousin (Who goes there now) and realized I wanted to go here. After seeing the standards and how great the school was, I realized I had to do better academically and NEU is one of the reasons why I challenged myself to reach for the sky.

Thanks for believing in me and hopefully I get into my schools and NEU! :)

Bump!!!

BUMP!!! I have just sent out my EA Apps to Purdue and UNC- Chapel Hill. Any recommendations???

Just an update. I’ve removed UConn, Stony Brook, UMASS Amherst, UW Madison and BC/ND. Still don’t know about Pepperdine yet.

I have some schools I was considering as well-
UMD College Park
USC (WBB Program)
Vanderbilt (Econ)
Wake Forest
TCU
UVA
Tulane (Free App)

Any other recommendations, subtractions or additions would be helpful!

BUMP!!!
I’ve decided I’m doing ED I to NYU Stern (BPE Program). If i get into BPE, I am binded. If I get into NYU Stern, NYU Shanghai or any other program I am considered for, I am not binded. I understand this completely. Please help me and chance me with NYU before the 1st!!!

Got into Rutgers NB, Rutgers Newark, Temple U (36k/4yr scholarship), and Purdue University! Waiting to hear back from my other EAs this week. Hopefully I get into Northeastern (on the 13th) and hopefully NYU which I ED’d to (on the 18th)!

I got into Fordham Gabelli School of Business, Tulane A.B. Freeman School of Business, and Babson College! Deferred from Northeastern and Case Western. All were reach schools for me, I’m so happy about the outcome!
