Another letter from SEAS...

It's stupid for a college to call anytime before even 3pm. You're in school, duh!

Well, don't most admissions offices close around 5PM. Maybe 2 hours of calling time is not enough.

Isn't this about a professor making a call? And the adcoms at Columbia work way later than 5pm this time of year.

ughhhh now i feel like i have no chances at SEAS because i didn't get a call haha

lol actually it was the admissions office that called me like at about 9:30 a.m. It wasn't that big of a deal I guess because my teacher didn't trip.

I got into MIT so now I am a little torn. I must admit that I wouldn't be considering as much if they hadn't given me time to consider it as a major option. I really wasn't sure if I was getting in MIT

You should go to COLUMBIA. You'll have more fun there.

If you wanna be a lawyer/doctor somewhere down the line go to Columbia. If you wanna do engineering/finance, MIT probably has a legs up. SEAS Engineers are notorious for going into Finance and not actual engineering later on.

$$$ is a powerful influence.

@shawtysqrpants

I'm in the exact same situation. I've always thought Columbia was my first choice until I got into MIT, since the thought of the possibility of attending MIT had never even entered my mind.

Now, I don't know... you going to MIT's CPW? If yes, I'll see you there! I'll be basing my decision off campus visits.

I'm not sure if I'm going to CPW yet (gotta get $) are you in the facebook group?

I am leaning towards engineering/business, eventually product development.

Shawtyspqrpants + mavere, is CPW the same week as SEAS admit weekend? And in any case, if you do end up having to choose between both, you must let us know which one! =)

No I think the SEAS weekend is April 20th or something, but I can't afford to go to both even though I want to. I might see if Columbia could foot the bill or help, because this is an important decision.

Haha, I didn't even realize there was a MIT facebook group. Well, I took this as an excuse to create an account for myself.

Anyway, last week, I got an email from MIT's dean of minority recruitment offering to sponsor my fly over there (I'm from CA), not that I'm a minority (Asian male), so I'm a tad confused (maybe it's my specific background?). If it weren't for that, I wouldn't be planning on going, since I'm rather low on the income ladder.

So my point is that, for both of us, I hope Columbia offers the same thing, since it'd be nice to make a well-informed decision between both schools.

Wait did you guys get likely letters? lol... I mean granted if you get into MIT you should get into SEAS but it's never a sure thing.

But if you guys do, just call Columbia and ask for your regional adcom and explain the situation. But do it only if you are really deciding between the two schools.

fyi i think everyone would agree Columbia has a much much much better campus than MIT. MIt is basically killian court and one huge building with everything connected together and a lawn with the athletic complex across the street.

Yea, I believe we got likelies. Haha

Yup we got likelies. @ mavere: I'm poor! I need a minority recruitment office to foot my bill! I'm still trying to see if I'm going to CPW because I have to worry about paying the deposit to hold my spot at one of those schools.
