My son is deciding between Case and Washington Univ. There are great similarities between the schools. I am very impressed with Case and what they offer to the students. Washington Univ. offers the same opportunities but not as openly. In the end (which will be soon), he will have to make the decision, but I would like input from anyone who can compare the two. He is interested in economics and international finance and definitely wants to go overseas. Along with being strong academically, he plays varsity sports and is very social. Thanks to all who have an opinion.

thearts - I don't know a lot about Wash U. but if your son is interested in study abroad, any scholarships he receives from Case will apply when he goes abroad and they factor in the cost of plane tickets when determining financial aid packages for students who are going abroad. Case undergrad is a little smaller than Wash U.

Case's Ugrad is about 2/3rd the size of WashU's
yes they are very similar in academic respects, Washu a being more respected for biology and chemistry, while case usually has more of an engineering emphasis. Both schools have excellent BME programs. I know Case's business school is ranked fairly well, and MBA program is well respected; sorry I don't remember much info about washu's business school.
WashU does have more of a party atmosphere, I mean they have a building named after Anheuser Busch...

I applied to both, got waitlisted at Wash and then came to case. I am a swimmer, and I would've swam at either school. Their campuses are very different, but about equal in walk-ability and distance from end to end. Washu has more of an "Fancy school on the top of a hill" type feel, while case is very much an urban school.

hope that sorta helps

I fell in love with Wash U. I wish I got it. I got deferred ED and rejected outright two weeks before April 1st. And to top it all off, the baseball coach told me to keep in contact with the director of admissions, Nanette Tarbouni, which I tried to do. I left her three phone messages, directly on her machine, and I didn't get a call back. My parents asked why she hadn't called me back and she replied that she never had any messages. Something must have come over her because I received an apology email two days later.
Man, I really wish I got into WashU, eh, maybe as a transfer.

I'll probably end up at CASE. I liked it there too. I'm deciding between UVa and CASE.
But I would've chosen WashU over any school.
Hope this helps.

I don't know anything about washington u, but Case is great and they really care about the students. My son has been to several prof's homes, and I know they e-mail him back anytime he has a question. They have even worked with him regarding summer grants to go abroad & to start clubs.

Their business school is highly regarded and the people I know who have graduated from there are doing VERY well. You couldn't ask for a better education. The other thing that really impresses me as a parent is that the students all genuinely care for each other.

Ultimately, it depends upon where your son feels the most comfortable. Good luck!

WashU has just recently recruited a number of superstar economics professors and is continuing the recruting drive to get 12 new faculty members in the department. There is a difference in the quality and prestige between the two universities. If money is not an issue, then many people probably will choose WashU. However, it is all up to the individual.

A side note: if someone really likes the Cleveland Symphony (StL Sym is not bad at all), then Case is the choice.
