Here is my situation: I have taken most of my high school classes at community college, where it is difficult to get to know a professor well enough for a personal LOR. There is one who I know pretty well who will write me one but I'm having trouble finding another. I have worked with a sociology professor at UCSB who will most likely provide me a good letter. The problem is that, although I've sat in on many of his classes, I've never been officially enrolled in one. Yale told me that a recommendation from a professor whose class I've actually taken would be much better. Should I ask my french professor to write me my second required letter and add the one from UCSB as supplementary? If she writes me one, it will be fine but nothing personal or really amazing. Should I take the risk and only include the two "real" letters or add the filler letter and put the other as supplementary? Thanks!!!

No, just use the sociology professor’s as a “real” letter.

What’s your reason for that suggestion?

Well, your main worry comes from the fact that
but obviously, that LOR will be a lot more personal and will have a greater impact than the generic one from your French professor.
