Recomendations

Do they really help?
My bf went to nyu
And I have friends/family that have gone to
Harvard
Princeton
Duke
Penn state
Yale

So they all said they would write me a recommendation. Do they really help or is a waste of time.

LORs are about you, not the person that writes them. Yes, LORs help if they say significant things about you, not the position or alma mater of the author.

Required LORs must come from teachers. It is not a good idea to have someone who is a friend write you a supplemental LOR (unless a peer LOR is required). Supplemental LORs should be from someone you’ve worked with, has led an EC you participate in, etc. A supplemental LOR should only be submitted if it is extremely strong and if it says something different about you than what is said in your teacher and GC LORs.
