I've heard that honors students get early registration for classes. Is that true? If so it seems to put regular students at a disadvantage...

Off of gut feeling, I have to assume that’s false. i did a bit of research and found nothing to support it. If you want to read a little further here are the links:

Someone else here might have first hand experience to tell you definitively.

not true at all… athletes & members of the band get early/priority registration. all the other students do not, no matter honors, scholars, civicus, etc;

The registration dates are based on number of credits - the more you have, the sooner you get to register for classes (seniority).

However, since all incoming freshman register for classes at their orientation session, essentially all first time freshman are on a level playing field other than orientation date. No worries - they always reserve a few seats in classes for core freshman classes so that every orientation date has some seats that magically appear available that day, but it is advantageous to sign up for the earliest possible orientation date because there are some other classes that won’t have those magically added seats. So, the early bird gets the seat…

So, do honors students get earlier registration? Well, no, but sorta yes. NOT because they are in honors, but by nature of admission to honors, they are likely to have more incoming credits (from AP exams) than their peers. If you are not in honors, but have a lot of AP credits, then you will register earlier than your peers also. This “advantage” kicks in when its time to register for spring semester. So, if you took a lot of AP’s, you will have an advantage over students that don’t have many or none at all.

While on the subject of AP credits, here is the chart to check out how many credits you might start out with

Note that the Calculus BC AP exam gives you credit for Math140 & Math141, so that one AP exam has an incoming credit value of 8 credits…other AP exams have credit value ranging from 3 credits - 8 credits.
