another traveling question (i'm sorry)

OKAY! so i've decided on like a group touring package around europe next summer for 33 days. it includes italy, greece, czech repub, hungary, austria, etc.

my only problem that you only get a day or so in most of these places, and i'm worried that i won't see enough...but i've never traveled before so don't you think it would be okay that i only see the touristy things? like an overview to give me an idea of what i want to revisit? i just don't want to spend all that time and money and never really see anything. what do you guys (who've traveled before) think?

well they're definitely gonna only show you the tourist attractions. the downside to this is that you don't feel any of the culture of the city, because you will be seeing only touristy areas and talking to people who are trained.

i would prefer spending a longer time in one place, to explore and live like the locals. you really become intimate with a place this way. those tours kinda skim through and give you a "cheap" version of the area you're visiting.

put it this way- you'll see what you came for, but you won't feel the vibe of the area.

i'm not telling you to do one or the other; it's your choice. if you have the means to revisit, that would be a great idea.

I would love to visit multiple places but I'd choose a program that had only three or four countries instead, so you can spend at least a week in each place if you really wanted to do more things and have more time to do it. A day is not enough, considering that you have to constantly pack to go to the next place and eat and sleep and all that jazz.

And since you are with a tour group you can't really break away and do your own thing.

But I think it's still a good idea. So that maybe you can go back to the countries that you liked the most on the tour. This would give you an idea of where you can visit later on. And since you've never traveled before, it would be fun. Traveling is usualy fun. =)

And Im sure you'd see stuff, it just would be what you'd expect to see and would be pretty limited. Like, if you went to DC, you'd be expected to see the washington monument and the memorials and whatnot on a tour.
