I’m currently a sophomore going into junior year. My top choice right now is USC school of cinematic arts.
I go to a public school in Dallas with a good rep. I’m white, M, upper middle-class, super privileged, etc. I spend 25+ hours a week for a sport that I’m nationally ranked in. I should have over 60 hours of community service by the time I’m done with my sophomore year. I nearly got national merit semi as a sophomore. I have/plan on taking 17 AP classes throughout high school. All A’s and B’s.
I’d also like to say that skipping college isn’t a viable solution. My parents are very adamant that they will support me financially through college and that its very important that I go. So to all of the anti-filmschool people aimlessly going through CC for some reason, save it.
Lets just say that my visual sample is good and my essays are decent, what are my chances?
To get into the film production major is extremely difficult. Approximately 4% admittance. My son got into every bfa film program he applied to except USC. ( he will be attending Emerson in the fall) So apply, but have several back ups and don’t count on getting in. If it happens, great!
@kevintocollege, Have you considered taking summer school classes at USC? That way, you increase your chances in a couple of ways: networking with students and professors, creating projects for portfolio, growing your resume and getting to experience the school before you commit.
I was looking at those recently. I think I’m going to try to do one of those next summer.
Keep in mind that a serious film school student at any university has little time to devote to any competitive sport, nationally ranked or not. There are only so many hours in the day. Good luck, showing that you can succeed academically while devoting time to sports and community service, plus a good creative resume should make you competitive for good film schools.
