Alright, I'm planning on applying to Yale EA and I was wondering what my chances would be? Any honest thoughts are appreciated.

I'm a male Hispanic from Illinois.

My highest ACT score is a 34. (36 math, 35 science, 32 reading, 33 english, 9 writing)
My SAT scores are worse. 1900 total. (~700 math, ~550 writing, ~600 reading)

The Average ACT score at my school is a 19, there is no average for the SAT.

Rank: Top 10
GPA (UW) 3.8 (W) 4.4

EC's

Math Team (9, 10, 11, 12)
NHS (10, 11, 12)
Community Service/Volunteering (10, 11, 12)
Theater (11, 12)

AP's
APUSH (4), Lang & Comp (3)

SAT II's
math 2 (700) literature (600) us history (650)

Parents have no college degree and only one of them has a high school education. I am also taking the most rigorous classes my high school has to offer (AP's and honors).

Doesn’t look very good…sorry to say…Although your situation is advantagious, SATII and AP are not very good. But you didn’t say much about your ECs so I could be wrong. Still worth a try though.

Nice ACT scores, (submit them instead of the SAT), strong w and uw GPA, but so-so SAT II’s. Your EC’s seem a little thin and ordinary and I don’t really see any leadershp. Did you overlook anything? Having the Hispanic hook is obviously a big plus. Write some really passionate essays, showing who you are. I think you have a shot, but, as you know, you are in a very competitive applicant pool.

Thanks all of you. I expected as much. I’m gonna retake the SAT and SAT Subject Tests so is there any advice in which score range I should aim for and effective ways to study? I’m better at the ACT than the SAT so any help is appreciated.

I am one of two leaders in a volunteer group I’m involved with. I’ve also served as a camp leader to some incoming freshman too. There aren’t many EC’s to get involved with in my school (I’ve pretty much listed 1/3 of them) and I’m hoping colleges will see that.
