Answering ALL Questions Related to Rutgers Pharmacy

My son got waitlisted, and since Rutgers doesn’t seem to really have such set program for the first two years, and admits transfers starting in the third, do they really have a need to admit people from the waitlist? Does anyone know of anyone getting off the waitlist and being admitted?

Also, he tells me they would like the mid-year grades - is this standard procedure or something new?

how many days a week do you typically attend school as a pharmacy student?

Hello,

To the Rutgers pharmacy admission erudites out there, I have some brief questions for you. I’m a junior and the highlights of my current course load is apush and apchem.
My main concern is that I had a horrible freshman year (2.6 gpa for that year) and that I left high school for a year for travel in west africa. I’ve pulled a good sophomore year and brought my gpa up to a 3.4. By the end of this year I predict a 3.9 weighted and next year I will take ap bio, ap calc, and a human anatomy class. Standardize test wise, I’m been self studying (my psat’s were 153 then 175) and im reaching for a 2000+ on the sat. I rank 36 out 535 in my class.

I have student research programs this summer at umdnj (project seed) and this spring at novartis pharmaceuticals which I definetly plan to list as ECs along with being president of my school’s the environmental science club and being in the upward bound program.

If I can pull a 5 in ap chem this yr and a 5 nxt yr in ap bio, is admission into rutgers pharmacy probable?

edmurley u have NO chance of getting in.
jk but theres so much info on this thread that I think u can figure it out.
However just know that u do not need a +2000 sat to get in, as I got in with a 1830.
While my sat may seem “average”, I think the reputation of your school, challenging course work, and high class rank is also used for admission consideration.

Edmurley,
You definitely have a chance. The best investment of your time, will be on the SATs. If you get high scores in math and critical reading, you’re golden.

My freshman and sophomore year was horrible, but I got a 750 on both CR and math, did student research as well and got accepted versus my friend who was waitlisted because did worse on the SATs despite having a higher GPA/class rank and more club activities.

The fall semester of your first year, you won’t have much flexibility because you’ll have your classes chosen for you, unless you have AP’d out of something. But after that, you can choose your own schedule. Make sure you know what classes you want ahead of time and choose your schedule ASAP, because some get filled really quickly and then you’re screwed.

I have classes all five days, but I have days when I have only one or two classes. It’s possible to have classes only for 3 days.

How do I notify Rutgers that I will not enroll? I just received an acceptance notice for the Camden College of Arts and Sciences on My Rutgers Status, but I plan on enrolling for a different college.

Go to top right corner of status page. Click on “respond now” and you’ll know what to do from there.

hey guys, if we get the presidential scholarship, do we still have to pay the housing deposit?

niteangel1004 – did you friend eventually get accepted?

How does:
SAT 2250
SAT II 790 Bio, 780 Chem, 750 Math 2
GPA 3.4 uw, 3.7 w (I hate my high school’s grade deflation T.T)
Rank Top 10%
Almost all honors/AP (except for 2 electives)

sound in getting into Rutger’s 0-6 year program?

@rwhitefangs You’re in.

Hi. I got into the pharmacy program but I’m worried about the courseload for the first year. I had to choose between taking AP Bio and Physics B for my senior year and based upon the teachers, I chose to take Physics. I know a lot of people have APed out of Bio but how do you think my experience will be without being able to ap out of bio? also do you have any suggestions for preparing for these classes before my freshman year?

The freshman orientation dates came out today and I see that the Pharmacy dates are June 27-28 or August 1-2. I want to sign up for the August dates and I was wondering if there is any disadvantage to choosing the later session? If we register for classes during orientation then I would want to go as soon as possible to get better teachers, right?

@ khupat, I personally APed out of bio but from what other pharm students say, 1st year is still the lightest in terms of workload so you should be fine.

Niteangel1004,

thanks for the info. i just confirmed my attendance to rutgers pharm for the fall so i was wondering how the scheduling would work. :)

Martman1210,

as pharmacy students we dont register for our first semester classes during orientation. its already pretty much made for us, so i dont think it really matters which one you attend. im going to be going to the august one too!

Hey. I got accepted to the 2+4 Pharmacy program that requires me to take 2 years @ Camden and the remaining 4 years @ NB. Did anyone else get into this?? Thanks

I am in my first year of pharmacy at Rutgers NB and I opted to not AP out of Biology. THIS WAS A HUGE MISTAKE. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get an A and it seriously brought down my GPA. Chemistry, Expos, Calculus, and Intro to Experimentation were all doable classes but no matter how hard I studied and memorized for Bio, I always fell in the C range. I did the paid study guide and attended every lectured and pulled a C+ yet all my other classes I got A’s and one B+. Bio at Rutgers is ridiculous and I do not know one single pharmacy student who has an A in it since we have other heavy course load classes to handle. The best grade is my friend who has a B in it. I seriously recommend APing out of it.

The Bio labs are inconveniently at 8:40 in the morning (most sections anyway) and require a lot of work to do for it. You have to write a lab report, take a study sheet quiz every week, take 3 accumulative big quizzes every few labs, and have a lab practical at the end. This may not sound bad but it is worth less than 30% of your grade and they expect you to know a lot for these quizzes. The average for the first draft of the lab report was a 6 out of 20 in my section (which was mostly pharmacy).

Seriously AP out of it.

@ khupat this is kind of a late response. Bio is definitely doable, you might just have to study a little bit harder. I used by credits on chemistry so I don’t know how that is but I though bio would be harder for me. I ended up getting a C+ in high school and knew that it would be tough for me in college. Overall I got a B in the class but I know a lot of people who got As (some didn’t even put any effort into it). The bio labs aren’t bad, you take a small quiz every week that is exactly the same as the study sheet in your lab manual. I personally just filled out the study sheet and took the quiz. The practical at the end of bio lab is not bad, just remember what the slides under the microscope look like. I didn’t really study for that and ended up with an A (there was a nice curve). As for the first draft of the lab report, the average was low in my section because a lot of people didn’t put effort into it. I put a little effort into the report and I think I got a 16 out of 20. They let you fix your mistakes and rehand the lab report in also.

I’m not saying that biology is an easy class. But I studied up on the teacher before I took the class and knew that I would be studying out of the book a lot. Bio lab definitely sucks because you have to take it for 101 and 102 and they make you stay there for the entire three hours. Not all the classes are at 8:40 though, last semester my lab was at 1:40 and this semester I’m taking bio lab at 6:40 at night. If you don’t like the time for your bio lab you can always end up switching during the add/drop period.
