Answering ALL Questions Related to Rutgers Pharmacy

I have some questions that seem really superficial, but I have nowhere else to ask them and I’m really considering Rutgers Pharmacy for this fall, so thank you for any input.

I really don’t want to offend anyone, but are the vast majority of students at Rutgers Pharmacy Asian or Indian? I saw the pie chart on an information sheet once, but everyone I know who goes there is Asian or Indian as is everyone I saw at the information session. As a Caucasian, am I going to feel like an extreme minority? I’m not racist (I have a really diverse group of friends), but I just don’t want to go there and be surprised.

If I wait until the third or fourth week of April to deposit, will I not be able to get housing on Busch campus? I’m still deciding between a bunch of schools and I don’t know if housing starts to fill up before May 1st or not. I’m a presidential scholar, so I’m guaranteed four years of housing, but as far as I know I’m not guaranteed my choice of housing.

Do most pharmacy students have a circle of friends outside of pharmacy? Or do they tend to feel isolated?

Lastly, just in case, if I decide to switch out of the pharmacy program after the preprofessional years, will I be on track to graduate in four years as a biology major?

Thank you so much…most of the questions on this thread are about academics so I just wanted to ask a few other things that I’ve been wondering about.

How difficult is it to transfer from SAS @ NB into Ernesto Mario School of Pharmacy after taking required courses for pre-pharmacy? Is there any percentage you can give me?

@ aridecker

Wait…till systems…that’s true evil right there.

@ Jerseygirl

It is prolly say ~70% asian/indian but there are a significant amount of caucasians as well.
2. APPLY FOR HOUSING ASAP, YOU DON’T WANT LIVINGSTON IT SUCKS.
3. If you choose to socialize w/ non pharmacy people
4. Probably, the courses are pretty similar to someone with a bio major.

@ CollegeInsider

Fairly difficult, though IIRC we accepted ~60 transfers this year

Yeah, same here. I got rejected from their Pharmacy program so I was hoping that I can take classes at SAS and then try to apply as a transfer to the Ernest Mario Pharmacy School later on. Do freshmen take the same required courses at SAS, as a Pharmacy student would? I mean like chem, orgo, calc 1, bio, etc?

Thanks for your input.

I got into the pharmacy program but my goal is medical school. Should I go into the pharmacy program and then transfer out? Suggestions?

Opcwall

Transfer where? Unless you are seriously considering pharmacy you would need to have a degree for med school which you would not get in pharmacy for six years. The first two years are really no different then many pre-med tracks.

I meant to ask as a high school senior who will be a freshman in rutgers next year, would it be better for me to go into the pharmacy program and then transfer to sas and then apply for medical school?
Or would it be better to just head straight into sas?

Jerseygirl

I am a current student at Rutgers and I would say that a large percentage of the class is indeed Asian and Indian, but there are also plenty of Caucasians. In terms of being on pace for a degree in biology if you decide to transfer out: Yes, my friend decided she did not want to do pharmacy and will graduate with a degree in biology instead.

admitted as a pharm student for class of 2017. i have a some questions.

1) i’ve heard the best class to AP out of is bio

  • do a lot of people AP out of classes (how many out of bio, chem, calc, electives?)
  • will it be bad to AP out of the class if i dont remember the material? (i took Ap bio my sophomore year, and dont remember a thing) does the material covered serve as the basis for courses in the future?
  • is it better to AP out of bio (see above) or humanities electives?
  • if i do decide to AP out of the class, will there be another class i’m placed into?
  • also how does it factor into your GPA? (do they leave it out or factor it in based on the credit 4-B (i also took it at a community college so would it be better if i use that instead - i got A and A-))

nd3456: did you JUST get accepted like off the waitlist or from reg. decision??

Does anyone know when admitted students day is for Pharmacy students?

I’m sure you have gone over this a bunch of times. I recently attended the pharmacy accepted student day at Rutgers and am still a little curious about the topic of using ap credits. What is your opinion on “aping” out of essential courses like General Biology(I am considering not aping out of biology but I want to get some other people’s opinions)

Thanks

yes, everyone does. you got into pharmacy so you took atleast a couple (if not a lot) of ap classes … time to use your money for some good.

nope

bio

if i do decide to AP out of the class, will there be another class i’m placed into?
gen psych

Going to pharmacy school and then transferring out gives you one big advantage: preference in classes. You will never be locked out of organic chemistry, organic chemistry lab, etc. because you are guaranteed a spot in pharmacy. It also an excellent back up in the event that you don’t do as well as you had hoped in chemistry and biology (both weed-out courses).

prodigy11: nope, i got notified of acceptance(from reg decision) back in january

khupat: i went to one, it was april 2nd. idk if there is another coming up?

thank you lurker for all your help!

hey guys! does anybody know if there is a specific open house date for pharmacy students?
b/c i thought the April 2nd date was for all new brunswick admitted students (including biological sciences, etc. etc. and not only for pharmacy students…but I could be wrong)

thanks so much! :)

Hey. I’m currenty a junior in high school. I am interested in the program and I was wondering what the reuirements are. I hear different thing from different people

I have a high average. Around a 98. Ad my sat score is around 1900 so far. I don’t wanna list my extraC activities. Unless it’s importan now. But can you please tell me the reuirements and if my grades somewhat meet them? :)

It’s a full load, as any other university. But if you can put in the hours and learn the material, you will progress. If you can make it to the 6th year, it’s a cakewalk. The last year is basically on-the-job training. My roommate’s girlfriend got fall-down drunk 3 nights a week during her last year and she just got her pharmd! Now she’s going to make everyone call her Doctor! :-)

Hi I was wondering if there is anyone in this program right now or has been through it and can tell me about it? I accepted my admission for the 2+4 Pharmacy program at Camden and just wanted to get an idea of the difficulty of the classes I’ll have to take. I’m still on the waitlist for the 0-6 program.
