Hey Im a junior in hs and I’m really intrested in this program and was wondering what my chances are and what I could do to best give me a better shot

My stats:
Sat:1900
Gpa: 92(unweighted)
Ap: Psych-4 taking bio, english senior yr
National honor society
Captain of tennis team and engineering club

Volunteer work at hosipital and tutoring at afterschool program

Hi Lurker! I was just wondering, does Rutger’s 0-6 pharmacy program have a separate application like USC? or do you just put you want to go to the pharm school on the common app (does RU use common app?)

@ChocoZ, I know im not lurker who has already experienced being a student at rutgers, but i did just complete the application process last year and will be a freshman in their pharmacy program this coming fall 2011. to apply, you use the same undergrad app that anyone applying to rutgers would use. theres no special app for the pharmacy school and rutgers doesnt participate in the common app.

Hi I got accepted into the program and hopefully am attending this coming September. I wanted to know if there is a possibility that I get kicked out before I even attend. On my physics final I got a significantly terrible grade and now I am having anxiety.

@Rroing…you will be fine. Anything C and above would be fine, if the grade is limited to just one course and if you did fine in rest of the classes. Enjoy your summer and welcome to the EMSOP community.

I would go with Chemistry or English Lit and Comp+US Hist.
If you go with Chemistry, you get out of 2 semesters/8 credits of Chem but you still need to complete the 1 credit lab. If you are uncomfortable taking lab without the class, I would not choose Chemistry.
Alternatively, I would use the others listed above to get out of as many electives as possible, most likely you’ll get 2 out of the way (about 6 credits.)
I would avoid taking Calc AB credit because that would give you 4 credits and place you into Calc II instead. Unless you love math or need Calc II for something, I would not go this route.

I think I’ll take Chem because I am pretty good at it and feel that it’s important.

If I did Lit + Comp and US History, how does that work? Do I have to take “replacement” classes?

I remember someone saying AP Biology was a lot of work, but that you still had to take Psych or something as a replacement?

Which combination would save me the most work and stuff? (Not being lazy, being practical)

–

In addition, how is Biology at Rutgers? I have already heard there is a crapload of work… Is that still true? I would have thought they would streamline the classes after seeing so many students avoid taking it, but who knows, I could be wrong

Im wondering about my chance for once im a sr. Im going to be a jr so i have another year. Predicted stats:

Uw gpa: 3.4
Weighted: 3.7
Female in state asian, public school
Idk about class rank, our school doesnt give it out.
Sats: 2300. I took a tests in 8th grade and had a 1500, so this is my aim
Sat 2’s: math ic, iic, us history, biology, all hoping for over 700
Aps jr year: lang&comp, us history, bio. Hoping for 4-5’s
aps sr yr: lit, environmental science, calc ab, chem, statistics, also hoping for 4-5s

Will have 4 yrs varsity swmming, 6 yrs competitive club swimming, 2yr red cross, 2 yr paws, 2 yr debate, 2 yr teenagers, 2 yr orchestra, 1 yr spring track, 100+ volunteer hrs at camp sunshine, 100+ hrs at hospital, some hrs peer tutoring

Jyxl41: Taking AP Chemistry AND AP Biology in high school would be the ideal situation. Biology and Chemistry are both weed-out courses at Rutgers for our many aspiring doctors who really wouldn’t cut it in medical school. The classes are huge, the teachers are bad, and the courses are hard. I would suggest using the AP Biology or AP Chemistry credit to AP out of one of the sciences. I said that you should take both because I don’t know how I would have survived (and done well in) Gen Chem without a strong foundation in chemistry that I gained from my AP course.

Also someone mentioned taking the lab without the course - there isn’t a lot of overlap and the lab isn’t terribly difficult. Its a repeat of a lot of the labs that we did in the AP Chemistry curriculum.

Regarding psychology “replacing” biology - yes, this is true, but psychology is a required course in our curriculum anyways so really you are just getting ahead and setting yourself up for an easier second year of college where you will be taking more difficult courses.

Whether you should AP our of Biology or Chemistry is a big “debate” but honestly there is no wrong choice - I personally chose to AP out of biology because of the workload and the fact that you can get out of the lab (the same is not true for chemistry).

PS: “streamlining” does not occur at rutgers, lol.

PSS: DO NOT USE YOUR AP CREDIT ON ELECTIVES WHEN YOU CAN USE IT ON A DIFFICULT SCIENCE CLASS. IT IS A WASTE. Classes do NOT build on top of each other in the first two years, don’t let anyone fool you.

I don’t think you can get out of both semester’s with a 4 in chemistry (correct me if I’m wrong, it has been a while since I’ve been through this process). Taking chem off-semester is also a great idea.

Oops I didn’t know that a 4 in chem can only get you out of Chem I, sorry Jyxl

I agree with taking chem off-semester. Use your chem credits to get you out of Chem I and Lab (5 credits) then try to use US Hist to get out of a 3 credit elective.

@Lurker, Can you get out of expos with Eng Lit credit?

@Jyxl If you use USHist, then you would only need to complete 5 electives, one of which must be Psych or Sociology. Without having to do all 6 electives, you might be free your spring semester of sophomore year to take History of Pharmacy, a professional elective. Good luck!

Rutgers Merit Scholarships (ex. Presidential Scholarship) are renewable for four years. Financial Aid, obviously, you can continue to receive if you qualify for it.

I’ve been following this thread for MONTHS, and now I’m only 1 month away from starting my Rutgers App.

Just two questions:
Does Rutgers use rolling admission or early action/regular action? During the pharmacy meeting, the Dean said that they have early action, but online everyone says rolling.

Can I send in my SAT scores after I send in my application before Nov. 1? I’m taking SAT on Oct. 1, so I might not get scores back in time to send with app.

Rutgers must have recently added early action because it was not there last year but according to their admissions website this year there is an early action deadline of nov 1st

Yes you can send in your SAT scores after. Make sure on the SAT to put down that you want your scores sent to rutgers right away.

I got an 1800 on my SAT score the second time I took it. Do you think I have a chance at Rutgers pharmacy? My classes are AP/Honors and I have an unweighted GPA of 3.8
