Answering Questions from International Students Here!

@paul2752 Yes, I’m already in college in my country. Yes, I know I have about as much chance as that of a snowball in hell, but hey, to quote MITchris, “the only way to have 0% chance is to not apply”. And I know for sure that it can be done.
On the Dartmouth part of the app, it says the length should be about a page. How long is “a page”? Like, a page with font 11 is very different from a page with font 14. Yale’s engineering question doesn’t indicate any limit at all.
And then, there’s the counsellor problem…

Do you know the chance of applying and not getting and not applying-not getting in are almost same, which is zero?

Anyway, since you are an international transfer with FA need, you have even less choices. MIT does offer FA for Int. transfer but that’s basically less than 10 students per year. I don’t know if Dartmouth does. Have you checked with them?

Not only that, if you are international transfer student, tippy top colleges(Harvard is need blind for int, transfer but other Ivy leagues are not I think) that do offer FA to Int. Transfer sets requirements for applying. For example, in Columbia University, if you are 2nd year student at different country’s college, you can’t even apply

@paul2752 Eh, I’m banking on the “almost” part. Besides, it’s not like I MUST go to the US anyway. The college I’m currently in, while not fitting me very well and really, really lacking in the research opportunities for the moment, is good enough for its bachelor degrees to be acknowledged by Oxford, and there’s always graduate schools and Fullbright anyway. And the NDM Prize Studentships. And the Clarendon Fund. And Gates Cambridge. And my college’s joined program with Oucru…
I go where I think will fit me and where the researches are, basically. If I don’t get accepted, I’ll be a bit disappointed, yes, but not heartbroken, that’s for sure. The possibilities are literally endless. Why should I limit myself to only one specific country, either my own or the US, when I can have the world at my finger tips if I try hard enough?
Dartmouth says yes. I checked.
And that’s why I apply to only MIT, Dartmouth, and Yale.
By the way, I can’t speak for Yale (it’s kind of a last minute thing), but past years’ statistics say my chance at MIT is about 3%, and at Dartmouth 5%, which is about the same chance I had of getting into my current college. Eh, I think I’ll be fine. I’ve gone against worse odds.
So, counsellor? And “a page”?

Roughly 250 words.
