Answering the Early Decision Question in an Interview-When You Applied ED Elsewhere

Most college interview instructions say to make eye contact with the interviewer. But what if the interviewer has just asked you if you applied Early Decision and you did ... somewhere else?

Has this happened to any CC members? If so, how did you answer the question ... and how many "um's" came out of your mouth first?

I have yet to sit through college interviews, but personally, I believe that it shouldn’t matter if you’re applying ED or not. Sure, statistically it helps your chances. But if you tell the interviewer you want to consider the school in a wider context–for example, you want to apply to that school RD to compare financial aid packages–the interviewer should be fine with that. Also, you don’t have to say you applied ED somewhere else even if you did. Only the ED school will know that you applied there ED, and unless your GC says you applied to such and such school ED, no one else will know.
