Hey guys, i have a problem

I am planning to apply to the SEAS at columbia and for the short answer, i need to do the why columbia and the why engineering. The problem is, is that my reason for columbia is the same reason as for engineering... I can write the why engineering essay with no problems, can anyone give me some pointers for the why columbia essay?
thank you

dont write NYC, its overused.

i know that. I wasnt going to write about that in the first place. Any other pointers? like what would seperate a reason for columbia as opposed to a reason for engineering?

Maybe go in depth on what classes you would like to take under the engineering program for the engineering part, for the Columbia part you could talk about specific programs the school has (the newspaper, a dance team, something like that) or about some students you have met that attend Columbia. Something like that.

i was thinking of talking about how the core provides a large liberal arts base… does this go into engineering or is this why columbia?

That would be for the Why Columbia section.

I think the core could go into engineering as well. You could elaborate on how an engineering experience at Columbia would be unique because of the core.

i still have no idea what to put in the why columbia section! ahhh!!!

Woops, I didn’t read the engineering prompt until now. I think you could write about what I said in my earlier post for Why Columbia. For the engineering question, you are supposed to write about what attracts you to the study of engineering. So, why do you want to go into the sciences?

I wouldn’t mention Columbia at all in your why engineering essay. Just talk about why you want to major in engineering at any school. They say “the study of engineering”, not engineering specifically at Columbia. Then for the why Columbia essay you can specifically say what you like about Columbia, their engineering department, the core, the core as it relates to engineering, etc.
