I'm signing up for Fall Classes tomorrow at my local CCC and have about 17 units to complete before transferring to a UC in Fall 2009.

Fall 2008 coming up is the last semester UC will see implemented in my GPA as I turn in my app this in November.

I'm looking into an Anthro Major, hopefully into UCB, UCLA or UCI.

I've taken already 2 of the 3 Anthro Pre Req's and still want to sign up for other classes yet don't know what.

I'm told I should take easier classes to get A's to raise my GPA further in that UC App, but what classes? Whatever I want? Obviously, but should I now focus on classes perhaps towards a minor, another major or just for fun?

All answers highly appreciated.

i'm taking a lot of useless classes just because there are only three pre-reqs to anthro major.

for the summer i'm taking art history 1.

for the fall.. i'm taking

-anthro 3 (major)
- engl 5
- engl 71 a .. intro to fiction writing
- human 21.. film & art
- math 203
- music 15a - jazz and blues

haha so basically i'm taking a lot of extra classes. hopin' for that Easy A. haha =)

hey iamvindicated,

awesome, easy A seems the way to go I guess. Are you applying this November to transfer too?

So far on my list for fall i've got:

Anth 120: Last one needed under pre req
Psychology 210: fulfills IGETC Math Req

but thats only 7 units so far so have these too in the maybe pile:

CIS 101: UCI recommends this, I'll have to look if UCB & LA do too.
Poli Sci 201: Cal State History Req, but I only really want to apply to UC's.

So i dont know. You're suggesting then I just take easy classes for those easy A's? Those 2 Anthro & Psych classes are req's so def taking those...but should I sign up for the CIS' class or even Poli Sci 201?

iam-vindicated,

6 classes this fall? not too much?

i tackled 5 first semester ever and my grades suffered to mainly C's that 1st semester. then again i did take nothing but req's from math to french and etc.

are you not gonna be working this fall? Are you gonna be on campus mon-thurs? im trying to set up my classes so im only there 2 days a week, especially since i just moved 15 miles away compared to before at just 3 miles.

hey holidays,

i'm applying this november as well. you definitely shouldnt add electives first though.. focus on your IGETC.

i definitely think you should take the CIS 101 class. i'm probably taking that for the winter or spring semester for UCI. i dont know about poli sci though.. it doesn't seem like you really need that class and since you don't even want to go to a cal state, i would eliminate that from your list.

6 classes for me = 19 units. it's definitely a workload but i have to unless i want to spend another year at a community college. i think as long as i don't mess around.. i'll be on track with hopefully DECENT grades. haha i'm aiming for mostly A's and B's. i'm not working either so it should be fairly okay. for me class time ranges from Monday through Friday.. last semester it only used to be from Mon-Thurs :

going to class two days a week is like squeezing all your classes one those days. if you can do it, go for it but i would spread it out.. even if that means long distance.

i think i will be signing up for the CIS 101 class. Especially because I checked RateMyProfessor.com and saw nothing but rave reviews about the professor both teaching in class and online. Easy A's and very helpful were mentioned alot about the professor.

This class is online and is only 9 weeks as opposed 18 weeks of a whole semester. So it's definately condensed but everyone says she's easy.

My classes are Mon & Wed from 8am to 2pm. And on Monday nights one class from 6-9 which I like cause we only meet on Mondays, plus the professor is super easy everyone says.

Yes its a workload but should be bearable, especially keeping in mind it won't be just a walk in the park.

Hell, I might even apply for a part time job after the 1st month if I decide the classes aren't too bad.

Hey,
I'd recommend taking any other anthro classes that your school offers so that you can learn more about the different fields. It will probably also show that you really enjoy the major. I also made sure to get very involved in clubs and other activities on my campus. I was prez of our ccc anthropology club and i think that also really helped me get accepted. Good luck! :)

thats awesome manders, thanks

btw, where did you get accepted to?

UCLA and UC Davis. They were the only schools that I applied to :)

nice! So you're an Anthro major as well?

May I ask what GPA you had? I know its not just about GPA's when transferring, but what would you suspect gave you the edge?

Yup, anthro major :)
Actually my GPA wasn't very high. It was under a 3.5 but I think all of the extracurricular activities definitely helped.
