I am hoping to transfer from UCR. I have a 3.8+ cumulative GPA as of now and a 4.0 major GPA. Prior to applying, I checked online and read "You should complete as many preparation courses as possible prior to transfer, based on the availability of courses." So I assumed this meant UCLA would be lenient if I wasn't able to complete all the courses. I've only done 2/4 (but I got A's in both courses)... I was hoping to get into Biological Anthropology this quarter but it seems completely closed now... hoping someone will drop the course or something at this point. I'm genuinely freaking out. I've just read that UCLA wants transfer students to have completed all pre-reqs :( And I don't even think the last course is offered at UCR...

Will this significantly hurt my chances? :(

I actually think you have a fair shot. Your GPA is great. I know a guy who transferred last year from UCR as an Anthro major with a similar GPA. Which pre-reqs did you complete and which are you missing? You really should try to complete all 4, or at least 3. This could be the difference between getting accepted.

Thanks so much for responding, SMCguy By any chance, do you know if that guy completed all his pre reqs or like 3 out of the 4? I completed Cultural Anthropology and Archaeology, but not Biological Anthro / Culture and Communication. I’m not sure Biological Anthro will even be offered here next quarter, but I’m hoping it might be. I don’t believe anything like Culture and Communication is offered here :/

I believe even completing one of the last pre reqs at a local CC would help your chances, from what I have read they are very particular of having all pre reqs completed by the spring prior to admission

UCR does offer it the culture and communications class. I think it’s Anthro comm or Linguistics. Just look for a class with a similar description as “Introduction to study of communication from anthropological perspective. Formal linguistic methods compared with ethnographically oriented methods focused on context-bound temporal unfolding of communicative activities. Topics include language in everyday life and ritual events, socialization, literacy, multilingualism, miscommunication, political discourse, and art-making as cultural activity. P/NP or letter grading.”

The guy that got admitted completed 3 pre-reqs.
