I would like to know about the quality of the Anthropology departments at the women's colleges, specifically schools like Barnard, Smith, Wellesley, Mount Holyoke (but am up for any other great recommendations!). I am a freshman at a private university in Illinois but am looking to transfer to a women's college. I understand that Anthropology departments in State and Ivy universities are usually recommended (research universities, etc) but I would like to attend a women's college, preferably one with a good Anthropology department.
I just want some information:)

I’ve heard great things about Bryn Mawr’s Anthropology department. I haven’t taken in a class in it, but two of my good friends are majors. It’s a very established department with a fair amount of resources. We have a field school program which is a really great opportunity to get some hands-on research. Here is the department’s website: [Bryn Mawr College: Anthropology](Anthropology | Bryn Mawr College)

Because of our consortium with Haverford, Swarthmore, and UPenn you could take courses at any of those schools. As a Bryn Mawr student you could even major in Antrho at Haverford if you preferred their program: [Haverford College: Department of Anthropology : Welcome](Department of Anthropology | Haverford College)

Sorry for the late reply.
Thank you for the information!
Anyone else have information on other schools’ anthro departments?

Smith’s program focuses on cultural anthropology, but you can take at courses in biological anthropology at the other Five Colleges.

what are the five colleges that offer biological anthropology, if I may ask? Also, how did you know Smith’s program focuses on cultural? I would love to find information myself, but I have no idea how. Thank you!!

Smith is part of the Five Colleges consortium. You’d be able to take biological anthropology courses at UMass, not sure if the other 3 schools offer anything.

The first item of the frequently asked questions page for the Smith Anthropology dept web page talks about what Smith focuses on and mentions very briefly what’s available nearby.

Oh! Thank you
