Anthropology major, Museum Studies minor?

What schools are best known for Anthropology?

I've heard UChicago's tops.

Doesn't matter, all the top 25 usnews schools and top 20 LACs are great. Anthro isn't one of the majors where "program rank" matters if you go to a top school. In fact I'd argue the non-anthro dept ranked LACs and LACy schools are the best.

Columbia, NYU, GWU, and Penn would be best for anthropology & museum studies. This does NOT exclude other schools, however, because it is not extremely difficult to get an internship at a major museum.

A lot of colleges are good in anthropology. Do you want a big/small school? Rural or urban? Extremely selective or average? Emphasis on a particular aspect of anthropology?

I'm too much of an average student to get into UChicago, Columbia, NYU, or Penn. My GPA is around a 3.2-3.3 and my SAT score is a 1300.

Big/small doesn't matter to me at all. I'd prefer the college to be in a place where there are museums (I suppose that would include most places), since I'd like to intern at one at some point. A not-as-selective college with good financial aid would be best. I think I'm going to focus on cultural anthropology.

You might want to look at Wheaton (MA), Lake Forest, Goucher...

Here's a website listing all/most anthropology departments that might be helpful as a starting point.

Barnard, Bates, Smith, Brandeis, GWU, Boston U, Kalamazoo, Bryn Mawr, Rutgers, Skidmore, St. Mary's College of Maryland, Hamilton, Colgate, U Pitt, Bard, Michigan, Washington, U of the South, U Arizona, U Colorado-Boulder, Kenyon, U Maryland, Wisconsin, Sarah Lawrence, Macalester, Hampshire, and Grinnell are a just a few worth checking out.

In particular, I recommend you check out Beloit College in Wisconsin.
