Anthropology major

I’m thinking of what school to go to for undergrad. How good are these universities?

University of Michigan
University of Pennsylvania
University of Arizona
Penn state

It is hard to answer this question without knowing more about you.

If you want to know more about these schools in general, just do some research. Compare their stats. See what their student body looks like. Find out what their specialties are. Look into what their professors bring to the table. Look up where their majors end up (for instance, are they employed in a related field after graduation? Do they go to grad school? Unemployed? Underemployed? etc.).

But, I think it would be far more valuable to have a context for this question. What do you want to go into? What are the most important things to you about picking a college? Where do you live/is location in issue? Will you work well at a large university?

Personally, I have experience with U of M and (a little about) Penn State out of the schools listed above.

Ann Arbor is a phenomenal college town. U of M is the top in many fields. Plenty of research opportunities. Some outstanding professors. Lots of ways to get involved. There’s a lot more to say, though.

They’re all great. They all have top 10 departments of anthropology. Penn State’s is arguably the most highly-ranked on the graduate level (which overlaps with, but doesn’t perfectly predict, undergraduate outcomes). Which one is more desirable might change depending on your needs and desires.

So don’t decide between these on the strength of their anthro program because they’re all about equally good. The decision at this point should be based upon other factors.
