Anthropology Program

Tell me all the depressing details..
Will I be able to take anthro classes and eventually declare it as a major?

What's going on with the program? I know it has been "suspended", but that means nothing to me.

What part of the email that I posted in my thread didn’t you understand? In plain english, the anthropology program is being gutted. I can give you a quick and simple overview of what’s going on since i’m a junior/senior who’s about to complete anthropology. I receive e-mails weekly from the arts & sciences dept, so i’m somewhat informed on the matter.Basically, the outlook is pretty grim for sophomores/freshmen/anybody who wishes to start anthropology from scratch. However, if you’re a junior/senior and have completed most of the core classes and only need to take upper level classes, then you should be okay. However, there’s the possibility that NO anthropology classes will be offered after spring 2011.

edit: Let me know if you need something else cleared up ~

Hey, hey, hey… Calm down?! I’ve very good reading comprehension thank you. I was just hoping to get a student’s retrospective/information, not just the mass letter. You don’t have to reply you know :)

So it doesn’t seem like if I am coming in as a junior I will be able to declare it even as one of two majors. Seems it will be eradicated all together.
That’s terrible! Anthropology is pretty much an essential major for any state uni. Even my cruddy school has it, and they have a good program.

Why Anthropology?

I was saddened as well. Although I’m not majoring in Anthropology I’m taking ANT2410 this fall and was considering taking another anthropology course for the spring.

Does anyone know how this will affect the professors? Will they start leaving before the program is suspended, thus leaving TAs to teach classes? I ask because I am taking ANT2410 under the recommendation of a faculty member who knows the professor.

I guess my reply came off a little *****y. I’m sorry about that, it wasn’t my intention. Another point I’d like to add is that while I was at USF, I met several anthro majors who had transferred from FSU due to the neglect the program is suffering up in Tal. I had to move out of Tampa because I’ve got free lodging in Tallahassee and I’m only one semester away from completing anthropology; This was all before finding out that the program was being given the complete shaft. I guess I will find out the true state of the program once I go up there next semester. I wonder if there are any other anthro majors in here?
