Anthropology @ UCLA or Economic @ UCSD?

I currently am accepted by UCLA for Anthropology Major and UCSD for Double Major in Economic and Anthropology and now I have a difficulty of choosing between these two schools.

My mom would like me to work in I-bank like my sister but I was not admitted as Econ major in UCLA, and I will not be able to change my major later because I am a transfer student.

So here is the question: will I be able to work in an I-bank if I only have a BA degree in Anthropology from UCLA? Or would I get a better chance if I do double major in UCSD?

Thanks so much!

bumping this, because I’m in a similar predicament

You can’t really break into banking from either of these schools so my advice would be to do well at UCLA for a year and then transfer to a Ivy League school/UVA/Duke/Michigan/Stanford/Northwestern.

Transferring twice is a bad idea. And what if he doesn’t get in?

You can just ask your sister to refer you or put your name out there to her bank and then, voila, you opened the door to i-bank. Your major is irrelevant in your situation although you need to do well in it.

Go for UCLA Anthro and try to minor in accounting. UCLA is a target school for some ibanks. You have more opportunities to their on-campus recruiting event.

I think the more important question is how realistic is it for you to actually do i-banking? I’m not asking from the perspective that you don’t have a chance from either school, so much as you will actually have an interests in the job?
As long as you supplement your Anthro education with some accounting/econ/stats/math/management classes(you don’t have to double major in econ) at UCLA you have a decent shot at those jobs as long as you can sell yourself in an interview and tailor your resume to each job.
NO ONE hands you jobs just because you majored in X.

UCLA.

Once in, try and get into consulting… I know Deloitte recruits there.

Advice…stop doing what your mother wants you to do, recruiters will sniff that out in a second
