Anthropology

I'm interested in studying (cultural) anthropology as hopefully a major but at least a minor.
Anyone know any schools with good anthropology programs -- preferably somewhere east?

And if anyone here is an anthropology major now, do you like it and do you get to do a lot of field work?

Thanks!

The University of Tennessee has a very good Anthro program. However, it is more in line with forensics than cultural. Field work right now is on the down slope b/c of the economy I think. But, there are lots of opportunities for field schools. (You don’t have to be in a college’s field school to go to it and there is a few schools run in Tn by MTSU, UTC, ETSU as well as UT that you can attend.) There is field work in Dr. Bass’ body farm if you’re a hardcore forensic guy or gal.

What cultures? There are several opportunities to explore North American and South American Natives. Also, the opportunity is here to study the people of the Mediterranean with the Classics department.

Yes I like it very much. Many of the Antro classes are in Neyland Stadium. They have a bone lab and a nice comparative collection that one can work in voluntarily.
