Anti-Hook

My SAT scores don't break 700. I've never taken them too seriously >_>. So, for the few schools that accept them, I'm taking it one last time in Jan...seriously. Bye, Stanford. I doubt I can get in with my scores.

I'm from Northern Virginia, and anyone from NoVa knows that's a huge antihook for VA schools. Also, white female.

Other antihooks... Lack of ECs.

Really, my school screwed me over. It's a good school and it's been in the top 150 or so in the high school rankings since it opened 7 yrs ago. Colleges are gonna look at it and wonder why I haven't done programs, run for office, etc. Well, me school has 3200+ kids, and my class has been anywhere from 800-1000. The counselors are overworked and never have time for you or get back to you. You're rarely if ever told about any elite internships or summer programs. No one tells you what to do to get into top schools. Info about clubs is never dispersed. It's really hard to become the officer or get on a sports team or anything because 50 other kids are running for it, too, and everything is a popularity contest carried over from middle school. I wish I'd gone to a smaller school where I could have excelled. Now my lack of involvement makes me look boring instead of simply lost in translation.

SORRY, I HAD TO RANT

i'm totally full of anti-hooks!
asian female! 3.7 WEIGHTED gpa! completely unimpressive sat/act scores! only 4 ap courses and no awards! volunteer work and work experience suck!

basically, i stay at home and play games all day. :Q___

edited to add: i'm also from PA. does that count?

Asian Underachiever. Sounds like an oxymoron, doesn't it?

I think I win.

your face is an anti-hook

lol jk

Haha, my SAT II scores are atrocious.

Well. By CC standards, anyway.

Theprez.. I go to Lake Braddock in NoVa :P. Counselors are over worked, she learned my name for the first time when I gave her my transcripts releases and my college stuff. Lol Fluxxii you sound like me but a girl. Still your 3.7 is better then my 3.58. For one of my ECs I put Dedicated Video Game Player, 5 hours a day :). Maybe thats why I got rejected from my ED.

5 hours a day of video game playing? Do you think you just might have done better in school if you were doing real school work instead of video games? That is a habit you need to lose very soon. Its not a healthy way to spend your time and it is an enormous distraction from school. If you do that in college, you will likely have huge problems. My suggestion is to get rid of all your video games for a New Year's Resolution and donate them to charity. Go cold turkey and kick the habit.

Oh dude seafoodlover, I know it was a horrible habit. I used to play World of Warcraft. I quit that couple weeks ago. I went cold turkey, i sold my account. Dude I know i would have done better. I got a 2.9 my freshman year and ended up playing catch up the rest of high school.

AP Scores (two 4's, two 3's. yuck.)

My third SAT II is a little iffy, but not as bad as my AP's.

High school is a very average public. Also, GC is trained more to convince kids to go to community or state college instead of working at McDonalds rather than to get students into top colleges. Any kids in the past from my school who have made it to a top college did it without any assistance from the guidance office. Each GC is in charge of 110 seniors and 400 underclassmen, so they don't have much time for college admissions aid.

UW GPA =/= 4.0

No National awards. Plenty of local, but no INTEL, Seimens, etc.

...But my AP's are just atrocious.

Mediocre test scores (for an Asian, anyway).

And mediocre awards.

And I got a 3 on an AP test.

bah.

i have gotten 3 3's but im happy because no one in our school pass AP tests, But i did break the record for AP english, first person to pass with a 4 and also only junior, it is usually a senior only class.

A anti-hook would be writing a research paper instead of a personal statement(I've done that before.).

getting into AP's at my school is so difficult. We have 90 kids per grade, and AP classes normally only take 10 kids and normally about 60 apply for each class. We have to fill out applications, interviews, recs, essays. It is beyond ridiculous and many kids who want to take AP classes can not and then on the college apps it looks terrible. It is a huge race at the end of each year to try to get a spot in an AP class.

hmm... the fact that my 93% is translated to a 3.7 GPA (yet somehow I'm 1/185.... maybe my school marks hard =S) and that I'm international =(

My ec's are weakkkk. Everything else is in range.

wow abanks. I've never heard of APPLYING to be in AP classes. That's a real disadvantage.

my class is 90 and we had 30 in apush, the teacher thought that the class was to big so the first semester she only did test and the ended up flunking like 25 of the kids. The next semester we had 4 and she started to give assignments to pad our grades for the second semester.

"I've never heard of APPLYING to be in AP classes. That's a real disadvantage."

Tell me about it; it hate that policy. I didn't get into the class of my choice (waitlisted) because there were so many other applicants...I'm so screwed :(

My school won't let you take more than 2 APs each year. Some people do, but it is really rare.

How do u calculate W GPA? Like +0.5 for honor classes and +1 for APs?
