Anti-virus engine

Is anti-virus engine really necessary for PCs? What programs do people usually use?

If you live in the dorms, you need to install the anti-virus software that they give you. Its a good idea to have one. I've only used Norton, i like it. The one the dorms give you is good, but it looks really old, but it protects just as good.

is it free? When and where do we get the program that they give us?

So if someone has another AV software (like NOD32, AVG Pro, etc), they wouldn't be able to access Internet unless they installed the Norton AV?

I highly recommend Windows Defender. It's free. No excuses. GET IT NOW.

They give you the program during welcome week. You need to turn off your other AV software in order to install the schools one. It takes a few days to be able to actually get on the internet in the dorms. You need to get your computer registered with the dorms. So hopefully you can live without the internet for a while.

is that Be Secure CD Package or something like that adamboy?

yeah, did they tell you about it?

i saw in the rescomp site.

adamboy, until they hook you up with the Internet in the dorms, I'm sure you must be able to access the Internet somewhere at least - either through Airbears/some other wireless network around campus or at least in the library or something?

Yeah, there is a computing center in the dorms. You can use air bears on campus, and the libraries may be open by then, so you should be able to access the internet.
