My mum hates it, along with all Americanisations so I’ll be paying for it all myself I’ll probably go with my friends to stop them bugging me and just find something cheap/pok

Or you can be me, the atttractive strong boy, who girls like and then ask why i dont go to school and i say im homeschooled and presto they leave

Prom is what you make of it. If you feel compelled to “dance” like everyone else by virtue of the sheer proximity between you and your classmates/“bad” influences, then you need to reconsider a lot of things in your life.

For me Prom is like saying “take this girl, spend 300 dollars, and dance all night.”
And also at my school it’s the junior/senior prom. The Juniors get crown the queen/king at prom. Seniors does that at the earlier homecoming. It’s kinda backward.
For guys, I think it’s just really not our purpose; let’s be honest, how many of us REALLY care?

Haha I went to prom last year and its nothing as the OP describes his school’s prom, your description sounds more like a typical sweet 16.

Prom at our school is more like an awkward bar mitzvah kind of… Nobody is allowed to pregame because you need to have a parent drive you from pre-prom (or wherever you are before hand) to prom and there are all the teachers you see everyday supervising the event… awkward.

They have some DJ and play some good music but its hard to have fun at this kind of party when you’d be judged by your teachers who you will see the following week and sober…

The food was amazing though I won’t lie but really the only fun part about Prom was Pre-Prom, dressing up in a nice tux and having a really pretty date look prettier than you ever seen her before and taking pictures with all your friends.

Then theres after prom which is… completely different/

Ractogon I had a few friends like you (I go to a small school of 150 people per grade though), and like 7 of them took a road trip to this awesome Music Festival in California (We live in NY) instead of prom.

I am a senior this year and I don’t think I will be going to prom because I think while I didn’t completely enjoy it, I think its an experience everybody should have at least once to judge for themselves. To me, its not worth the $160 for 2 tickets (I would always pay for my date should I go as I did last year) and then the money to rent a tux and all that.

Just my 2cents

“Go to prom, don’t go to prom, but don’t act all high and mighty about it and lord over your peers with your ‘class’. There’s a time and a place for sophistication and culture, prom is and really has never been that place. It’s a dance and partying, and those who participate and enjoy it aren’t any better or worse than you are.”

This. Seriously.

Also, where does the spending $300 come from? Do tickets cost that much?
I don’t know much of anything about prom, really. Until recently I thought it was held in the gym and I didn’t understand why anyone would want a limo ride to a dance in the gym.

^If you’re a girl and want to take it seriously, you’ve got ticket, limo (or contribution towards) dress, shoes, bag/clutch, jewellery, maybe getting your hair/makeup done and for a lot of people another dress for the after party.
Most of this stuff isn’t necessary, but some people feel they have to spend a lot of money to get the full ‘experience’.

Ractogon: thanks lol. But at my school’s prom going without a date is completely unacceptable. You go with a date or you don’t go at all. Kind of sucks since I feel like many kids who really wanted to go must miss out on the expirence because they couldn’t get a date…

Oh we’ll though, there’s always next year! I see why you wouldn’t want to go though to prom though.

@hacyon: tickets cost $50, I would need to get a tux, a limo or gas money (because our prom is like held at this fancy place), some shoes, oh and food. Did I mentioned I got to pay off my $500 book rental to even go?

And I forgot I’m going to need to buy/rent a mask as well because someone thought a masquerade would be a good idea…

A) What do you mean “Celebrity”? You do come-off as elitist and “Too Good for Prom”, but that doesn’t really bother me.

“But bumping up and down with your crotch on a girls butt at a dance is one of the best parts of high school.”

B) Twerk Team Represent! :P

School celebrity?! LMAO.

Twerking is so…ew.

I don’t understand.

Omygawd I just saw the celebrity thing. Cute. xD

so you’re a celebrity? lol wow. so humble.

i’m not against prom, i think it should be fun, despite the other idiotic juniors who decided to have a vampire diaries theme. but i think everyone should experience it.

Lol, as if you can’t just be popular…you have to be a “celebrity”
Which leads those to think you’re more affluent than friendly

…twerking is an art.

TheAtlantic, lies.

Guise. Celeb stat is totes serious.

You just aggie cause u can’t pull it off child…

But yes OP is legit on the A-list. Got more twitter followers than Oprah…

Nah, son.
Tis degrading.

Oprah? More than Bey, Queen Bey.

It’s creative expression…with the booty

OP is famous…

Lawd have mercy.
