As the title goes, I wonder what should I choose to protect my laptop when browsing and downloading from the internet. So far, AVG is not bad, but I want to hear your opinions. Should I change my antivirus into something like Kaspersky or...?

I currently use symantec that was a free download from my school. It runs pretty good, but i don’t think i would pay for it. AVG has always been solid virus protection software as a free download and works well if your on a tight budget. I’ve also used the free Microsoft Security Essentials program and it has been great to use on my netbook. It may just be a matter of opinion. I tend to think some people would just like to pay for a program that does the job and the thought that they paid gives them some type of relief when they surf the web, like the $40 gives you a higher level of security. This is true in the case of features, but I’ve found that free software like AVG and MSE works just as well as pay software and can save you quite a bit of cash in the long run.

Thanks! One more thing: Can AVG work together with MSE or will they crash each other?

Many schools offer free antivirus with their internet. Check your school.

If you are somewhat tech-savy yet also want antivirus, free software can work for you. AVG is good.

You cannot have 2 antiviruses running. But you can have 1 antivirus and 1 antispyware running. (or something like that.)
