Anxiety Dissorder

I´m a second year medical student at university. A year ago I started getting really anxious before my classes, but I still managed to keep on with my routine. Six months ago I started to get really bad, to the pint of skipping my classes and not being able to keep up with my work, to the point of feeling really ill. Ive gone to a psychologist but i feel like it is not really helping me. Ive thought about drepping ut of college, but being a doctor is my dream and my family has already done a really big sacrifice paying my classes.

You’re in med school currently, or in undergrad? Or in a non-US system where there’s no distinction?

Perhaps it is time to go to a Psychiatrist and get evaluated for medication

If you are US MD or US DO student, your school will offer free & confidential professional counseling and will be able to refer you to an outside (non-staff) psychiatrist if you need medications. Contact the Office of Medical Student Affairs. They can tell how to set up a counseling appointment. The counselor can refer you to a psychiatrist for medications.

If your anxiety is severe and debilitating, you should ask your school for a Leave of Absence. LOAs are readily granted for health issues.
