Anxiety of being rescinded

I’ve gotten into some great schools and am so excited to attend but now I’m being wracked with anxiety of having my acceptance rescinded

How low would my grades have to be in order to be rescinded? Right now they’re fine but I’m super nervous…

There are many threads like this. It’s a common concern. The answer is that acceptances are very rarely rescinded.

^^ Agreed.

Cs and Ds with an F or two (that’s just my guess)? I highly doubt it’s going to happen to you! It is not going to happen if you get all Bs!

Bottom line - they admitted you; they want you. They really don’t want to rescind. But don’t get an F or a D. A wall of Cs will not be looked upon favorably. But if you get a B? No worries.

It’s a common fear (google impostor syndrome), but usually an irrational one. Enjoy your revisits. Enjoy the rest of the school year.Keep your grades reasonably close to where they are now. You’ll be fine.

Cuz in August, the fun really begins.

Thanks everyone!

My grades aren’t Cs or anything, just I’m so irrationally worried of losing this opportunity. I’ve even worried about my behavior and getting detentions/suspensions.

Congratulations!! You are just experiencing free floating anxiety because you don’t have to worry about M9 anymore. It’s a good place to be. Find something more benign to obsess about. March Madness? Making a list of things you want to do this summer? Binge watch something?

I did have a friend with full merit scholarship to Choate who lost it after sophomore year. He was and is brilliant, of course, and I’m sure you are too. I would not worry about them rescinding, but keep up the good work when you get there.

Well, since you brought it up. Major disciplinary issues will be a problem. But by “major” I mean drug dealing, academic dishonesty, concealed weapons, etc. Lateness to class, unauthorized use of a cell phone, leaving the building without permission, etc will not be an issue.

It’s something you value, so it’s natural to fear losing it. The key is, once it finally sinks in and becomes routine, how are you going to leverage it to achieve future goals? And it’s never too soon to consider how you could give back (to the school, community, etc).

@CavsFan2003, Ok and natural to take your foot off the pedal a little, but in the main, keep caring.

I’m a little nervous about this too… trying to stay positive though

What might cause a school to rescind my acceptance/financial aid? And how will I be notified?

^ See posts #4 and #8. These are as definitive as you are likely to get here.

If you have a couple of B’s, it is not the end of the world.Right after I had found out that I had been admitted to boarding school, I got my first ever C+ in math, which has never been my strong suit. The next quarter, I had raised that to an A-, but my boarding school never once threatened to rescind their offer. They want you to attend their school and they expect academic excellence, but they also understand they we are human. If you are concerned about a few B’s leading to a school rescinding you offer, don’t. Instead, try your best to raise them and keep up the good work!

@skieurope Let’s say that an admitted student did earn a wall of Cs on their report card, how would the school become aware of this in the first place?

Your current school sends a final transcript.

Normal stress. My son refused to tell people for about a week after he got into his top school. He was afraid it was an error. Only after the contract was signed and accepted did he fully relax. No worries on your last transcript. You will be fine. No one is getting dropped because your got a B instead of an A in a class.

@CavsFan2003 I have had the opportunity to get to know a little bit about you. From our brief interaction I can assure you, you have no reason to worry. I understand based on what you shared why you might feel that way, but those insecurities were forced apon you. The reality is your strength, courage, determination are the reasons schools want you. Everyone who applies has a strong academic background, but you my dear will make a difference in this world.

I was accepted to Phillips Exeter and Hotchkiss. First semester I had all A’s and A-'s. but now I have two flat B’s (including one in math). Am I at risk of rescission? Help! So nervous…

@n032171 No.
