I am a senior, and so far, I got straight As but one B in AP class in the first term. I am planning to keep this up until the second semester to relax and enjoy my senior year. However, I won't get Cs or below- just get at least Bs to be exempted from final exams. How many Bs is too much for colleges to rescind their admission? Suppose I am an A student, but what if I end my second semester with a few As and a lot of Bs?

I'm in a worse boat.. I've gone from A/Bs to C/D/Fs..

I don't think colleges would rescind for going from A's to B's- I think it has to be a lot more severe than that. And even so I think its pretty rare.

Yea, they wont rescind for that.

So...once we send in our applications and mid year reports, our gpa is frozen after the end of the fall semester, and we get acceptances...is it ok to slack?

I have a 4.0 currently, but I'm busting my ass off to get it and still maintain a life. I don't want to work excessively hard and strive for A's next semester if it means absolutely nothing. (Yeah, yeah, education for its own sake, love of learning, etc. But c'mon. Senioritis is in full swing.)

Has anyone known of hyp/other competitive schools rescinding acceptances? For what kind of grades?

I've heard of it happening for a D before. I'd steer clear of any Cs in second semester to be on the safe side. You don't want to be the example.

I think its probably more common for schools to put you on academic probation before you get there instead of withdrawing you...

i plan on going from A's to straight B's second semester...itll be grand.

I don't really thinks its a good idea to slack just because you got in.

Almost all schools are ok with a full letter drop (as in A to B) but most will ask for a damn good explanation for anything below that.

last year...the kid with the highest gpa just stopped working after he got into yale. got like 3 c's, 2 b's, 1 a. went from valedictorian to like 6th. needless to say, he is at yale. I doubt they care unless you have strait d's adn are failing a class

Wait, so enzo, does that mean he didn't graduate as valedictorian?? Does your school not freeze gpas after fall semester?

^ Yeah, that's weird, I've never heard of a school allowing rank to change through 2nd semester of senior year.

My school calculates GPA until 2/3 of the way though second semester.

Right now i'm ranked #1 as well... and frankly... I cant see myself letting to go. To me, I'm either gonna try to do the work, or not. For instance, you either read the english books... or you don't (yes, there is sparknotes, but thats goofy). Its either F or A...

I can't let down... I'd feel pained at not trying my best. Lame... yes? The truth... yes as well.

Even though my school doesnt proclaim a valedictorian, frankly I wouldnt mind rubbing it in the face of the people who talk behind my back becuase I took honors physics instead of AP junior year... and they got a B and I got and A... screw them

It's not okay to slack.

Where I am (Michigan) they review grades and will rescind admission if it's clear the student stopped working and didn't maintain work habits. A letter grade drop here and there might not trigger it, but true slacking will show up and imperils your acceptance.

Think of it this way, you might have gotten in on your record through junior year, but you need that senior year to finish your preparation for college. If you slack off, not only will you risk having to plead your case to the admissions committee, you may also find yourself struggling your freshman year because you're underprepared for the material and completely out of practice handling a serious workload.

My question is... if they take back their offer... then are you screwed for the next year? Like are you stuck at a community college. The school I am applying to are top tier... and what if I truly try my hardest, get straight B's... and they take it away?

PS... how do they find out... you have already sent in the mid year report? How will they know?

I believe your school sends your final grades automatically.

Ouch...

You seriously could end up at community college huh?

I'd break into the ad office and cry if I got my acceptance taken away for straight Bs

I know for the UCs that you have to maintain a 3.0...unweighted 2nd semester senior year. This year, I saw an example letter from a college (Sarah Lawrence, I believe) to an unnamed student demanding a reason (in writing) about why his/her grades fell second semester. The adcom in the letter from SL seemed very stern, to say the least. So it's probably a good idea not to let your grades drop too sharply (like A's and B's to C's and D'), but I doubt a college will care about a couple B's.
