I applied for civil engineering and am a physics major at my home college. Pretty bad freshmen year, but keeping straight A since 4th semester, till now.

I got an acceptance package in the mail today.

I didn’t qualify for any aid. Columbia is about $15k/year more expensive than my current school. However, my parents said they have enough cash saved to pay for the two years in full, so they really want me to go.

One of my courses may also not count. They want a syllabus to decide if it does. It was an intro to electrical engineering course I took over the summer.

@broken_symlink, congrats!!! But how much FA did you apply for? I heard from my friends, say, if you apply for a lot FA, they will not accept ur requirements. But if you apply for a few amount, they will accept. Is that right?

@Jasica, Sorry as far as I know, none of my friends/classmates are applying for IEOR, not to mention the admission. I guess you’re trying hard to find some future classmates to get some social network?

Don’t worry, this is the NYC, the most diverse city in the world.

@FallMonkey, Yeah, you are right! I want to find some friends to see if it is hard to get into Columbia’s IEOR. Moreover, I heard from my friends, say, if you apply for a lot FA, they will not accept ur requirements. But if you apply for a few amount, they will accept. Do you think this is right?

I don’t think I can go because at least I need 25K and I got 0. only condition i’ll go is i could complete in 1 year which sounds highly unrealistic.

@Jasica my EFC(or some index indicating how much you could afford) is 0, the lowest value, i.e. my family could afford none for my tuition. And here I got in, though still with some confusion on my final package, which though won’t be greater than several thousands, with nearly 50k aid for me. Trust yourself, and do good in those required courses, it’s the first and last way for you to do this 3+2 program.

They keep referring to the “need-blind” and most of posters here confirm that for us. So you should worry nothing about your need affecting your acceptance, and the only case is that for international students(I guess here you’re one international student?) they do have certian level of concern regarding your FA need. But your score is the first thing to rule out the bad ending, remember.

I hope to meet you someday as classmate :P.

@FallMonkey, thank you soooo much! Yes, I am an international student. I think I did ok for all of my required courses. I am just not clear what their requirements are for international students. Hope I can see you next year!!!
