I am wondering if anybody from the Los Angeles area has received an appointment? I just want to get to know some of the people I am going to be with for the next many years of my life.

Thanks

Hey marine88, first of all, congragulations on your appointment. Second, if you don't mind, would you be so kind as to post your stats that got you accepted? Thanks

Firstly, do not judge yourselves based upon my stats. I feel apprehensive about posting them.

3.85 unweighted GPA
4.003 Weighted GPA
Lots of AP and Honors courses
SAT scores weren't great- 600 for verbal and a little lower for the other 2
ACT- Overall 26
Class rank- my school doesn't rank, but I was told as a rough estimate 24/200

Note For those that do not have great standardized test scores do no worry. I am a prime example of a person that didn't test well on them, but still got an appointment. It's all about the complete person.

Congressional Nomination (CA 32) to USNA, USMA, USAFA, and USMMA

CFA:
Shuttle-9.3
Basketball throw- 70'
Pull-ups- 10
Pushups-68
Sit-ups- 60
Mile- 6:45

Varsity golf 3 of 4 years (captain for two years/ lettered 3)
All-league honors during junior year
Basketball

National Honors Society member
California Scholarship Federation member
Spanish Club member

Volunteered 100+ hours
Part-time job for the past 2.5 years (25-30 hours/week)

Note the stats provided are only one factor to the admissions process. I personally believe the three most important factors in the admissions process are your B&G interview, obtaining the nomination, and your personal statement.

Those three factors are the academy’s only person-to-person insight they will get from you. Show passion and commitment in your desire to attend the academy and they will certainly want you. I am not going to say that my stats are great, but apparently the Academy liked me enough to offer me an appointment. I am gracious for the opportunity handed to me. No one person’s stats are going to be the same as the next person that was accepted.

Again...don't judge yourself based upon my stats because the Academy looks at different aspects of each person. We all have relatively the same chances of getting in.

Best of luck to all those waiting for some type of response from Annapolis.

My son accepted his appt. We're in northern LA county.

Congrats...I wish him the best. Hopefully us California kids will stick together one we get to the Academy.

He is sooo stoked, like I'll bet you are! Did you walk around kind of dazed when you found out? He did.

Your stats look a lot like his, except he was varsity soccer (we don't have a golf team -too bad). His verbal was the same, his math and writing higher than his verbal. He seems to have a love/hate rel. with AP English; he loves to hate it!

I felt as if I walking on water or floating with the clouds. After I finished listening to my Congresswoman's message she left on my machine, I felt all jittery and was in disbelief because I couldn't fathom that my dream had just become a reality. I called everybody I could think of: my parents, grandparents, B&G officer, brother, friends, etc. My phone battery died because I called so many people! I still cannot believe I am ACTUALLY GOING TO ANNAPOLIS!

LOL...it's really funny how news travels so quickly in my area. Everybody knows that I got my appointment! I just hope the actual appointment doesn't get lost in the mail!!! I saved the message from my Congresswoman though!

Smart move!

Yep, I'm sure there's a name for that syndrome. I think it's called "Bliss." My son called his grandfather (my dad) at midnight (my dad's time).

I'm soooo happy for you! Congrats, again!
