I am wondering what my chances are of earning a letter of appointment. The only thing that worries me is my ACT Verbal score which was 25. My ACT math was 28.

I have received a congressional nomination. I have played varsity soccer for 4 years having been captain my Junior year. I have many hours of community service with my local community, church, soup kitchens, Ronald McDonald house volunteer etc...My leadership experience has stretched from teaching violin to church activities and even recruiting and training workers for my job. I attended the NASS may 31-June 5
My GPA is a 3.65, I took 4 years of latin, 4 years of math currently taking calculus. 4 years of english. Four years of science all of these being honors classes. I am currently taking Logic and Senior Thesis. I have much more but i feel it would get repetitive.

My BGO called me a few days ago saying that the Academies response to my application packet around three weeks ago was a Denial. This was before my updated version of ACT scores and as far as i know, before my Nomination status was sent in.

How many times does the Admission board review each candidates profile before they make a set decision of Acceptance or Denial?

My true goal is to become a Marine Officer even through NROTC.

I'm aware of one case like yours. The nominator prevailed upon USNA to review an earlier decision when additional, enhanced information was available.

Also, you're aware of the Marine Option on NROTC? Any news there?

This is definitely encouraging
I am very aware of the marine option that NROTC offers. I have received no news from the NROTC program but my Senator sent me an Army ROTC scholarship for a college in my state. I had never considered Army as an option because of my desire for the Marines, it is still an option.

I am still wondering how many times the admission board reviews each candidate.

THanks for your quick reply, it definitely lightens the mood to hear of a case like this receiving an appointment.

Others may know more definitively, but once rejected my understanding is generally none. Do you have any political favors that might be called in, i.e. would your nominator ask a favor?

This does not sound like good news.
WHen my BGO called me he said that everytime your application gets updated it goes back into the cycle for the board to review.

I can only pray that they take another look at my application after they finish picking the cream of the crop. I have a few friends from NASS who received their LOA's.

If you sent in updated scores it is my understanding your file will be reviewed again. Keep in mind that while you have a nom, you are still competeting with the others from your MOC.

If you do end up getting denied this go-around, consider applying for next year, especially if you have Marines as your goal. In the meantime, congratulations on your ROTC choice.
