Any Acceptances Yet??

My son was denied UP today online. The message said that they couldnt offer him
admission at Up but that he could call or email to talk about another campus or changingi majors. If he changes majors does that mean he still has a shot ?blckthought - I know you said you wouldn't answer any more questions and I don't blame you since you probably got bombarded but would you mind giving a little advice. Should my son call or email? He is not great on the phone. Also would you mind telling us what major you switched to- my son would switch to anything just to get in. Thanks for any help you can give us and once again congrats on your peristence in getting in

Sorry to hear about your son LTMREM.
After reading your post I assumed that they had updated this morning and I went in to check my D's status. I went in with a bad feeling in my stomach and to my suprise it said "Congratulations on your acceptance to Penn State!
I am pleased to offer you admission to The College of the Liberal Arts for Summer".

What a load off my mind.

GPA 3.33 uw
SAT 1980

I knew she was borderline for this year but I kept on hoping. Good luck everyone.

Congratulations to your daughter royalflush1958. Glad some people got good news. My son is going to call and see if he can switch majors and perhaps that will make a difference. Good luck to all.

Gosh, I'm sorry to everyone who's been denied so far this year. It's a heartbreak, definitely -- but if you switch majors, maybe you'll have better luck in something less competitive. Either way, if you get onto UP, you can always switch into it later, right?

That being said...I went online today, expecting "your application is complete and all of your materials are here" and ended up with:
"Congratulations on your acceptance to Penn State!

I am pleased to offer you admission to The College of the Liberal Arts for Summer 2009 at Penn State University Park. While a packet of materials will be in the mail to you shortly, I hope that the information provided here will help give you a head start on thinking about your offer to Penn State."

So...safe to say, I am fairly psyched. :3 Thanks to everyone for all of your support. I think the fact that I sent in a letter explaining some slips on my transcript was what pushed me over the edge. Maybe anybody else who is borderline can try that if they decide to switch into a different major for the second round.

I'll still be around, no doubt. Thanks again to everybody, good luck for those who have yet to hear a response and best wishes to everyone else.

It seems that the acceptances are flooding in today. What a relief for those who have waited such a long time. My D had everything in by end of Sept and was convinced that it was not going to happen.

Congrats to all I'm sure it was worth the wait.

GPA:3.925 SAT:1120/1600 1590/2400 ACT:24(but i forgot to send in my act) is my act better than my sat? if so, do you think i can send in my act and have them reconsider my decision? thanks

Faytal...same SATs...snow day...weird!

yeah, i live about 45 mins from philly. snow day is legit.
what pride(s) are you considering for summer session, jarad?
maybe we'll be in the same one.

(also received the packet in the mail today.)

Aw dang. Hey guys? I just got the mail packet and being in the summer session means being on campus two days after I graduate. :/

im not really sure...i have to do research about all of that...i know they have a foriegn language one, and i wish to start french, so i may take advantage of something like that

congrats to everyone who found out today! As far as summer session goes, psp-fifa-fan, I'm sure it was your SAT's that got you summer session (same for my d). At least you have a very good option to consider. Maybe summer session will help you ease into such a large university. Either way it's a small price to pay for 4 years in return.

when do summer sessions start and end?

You have to be on campus on June 28 for summer session, it goes for six weeks (classes start July 1st). Mm, this is going to be a really hard decision.

Just heard today...my son was just accepted at UP for fall to Smeal! It was far and away his first choice so we are all very grateful and very excited in our house today.
His stats: 3.8 GPA, 1940/2400 SAT best single sitting (which they say is only what they consider) 2000/2400 best combo. A few honors and AP's, good EC's, nice essay about personal responsibility, and I'm an alum, though I'm not sure exactly how much all of those extras really matter for PSU application.
Good luck to all those still waiting to hear!!

skull...
My son also put he was willing to start summer on his app. (even though he really did not want to.) So I'll say to you what I told him. Even though it was a LONG time ago, I also started in summer after only graduating from HS a few days before. Initially, that part of it stinks. However, there are many advantages which become apparent very, very quickly.
1.) It's a lot less hectic in summer and you can get a jump on becoming adjusted academically and socially 2.) Unless your parents force you to graduate a semester earlier, which mine didn't and I wouldn't ask my son to do, you can spread the credit work load out a bit over the course of your 4 years. 3.) You will be shocked at how quickly the time goes and before you know it, you're back on the same plane as all of your HS friends who will be starting to leave for school in mid to late Aug. 4.) The facilities are amazing ie. 2 golf courses, great pool, tons of tennis courts (yes, it's sounding a little like a country club) 5.) if you really want to go to PSU and have the fantastic experience UP brings, it really is a very small price to pay. Once September comes (and again, it will be there before you know it) you will forget about the small sacrifice you made and may even be very glad you did when you look around at all the incoming freshman who are lost, homesick and trying to figure it all out amidst a very crowded campus. Just a little insight...hope it helps and that you are happy with whatever decision you make.
