Any Advantage of Applying Early

Any Advantage of Applying as Early as Possible, or do all the applications simply go into the same pot?

Right now is a great time to apply. The importance of applying early is just in relation to on campus housing. I think you have to apply first and then you should pay the $30 or so to apply for on campus (dormitory) housing. The earlier that you apply, the better your “housing number” is and the earlier that you can choose the dorm that you want in the spring or early summer. Those that apply in august and september get really great housing numbers and they can then choose their favorite dorm later when they see what dorm they would like. If you want to live off campus, there is less of a reason to apply early.

so $30 is all that is needed for housing before acceptance?

yes. its just a non-refundable fee to be placed in a line.

This…

I finished both applications October 7th and was able to chose to live in any of the halls. While the sooner you apply, the lower you get placed on the housing list, if you apply before mid/late October, you should have your first pick of hall. (Judging from this past cycle)

The housing application fee is $25 (non-refundable). My son submitted his application about a week ago and he got a brochure in today’s snail mail telling him to go online and apply now for housing.

seiclan:

do you feel that the fact they asked him to apply for housing now is some sort of indication that they intend to accept him?

Not at all! They ask everyone to apply for housing a week or two after they receive the admission’s application. Applying for housing now is not specific. You just click that you want to apply for single student undergraduate housing and pay the $25 fee. You then get a dated receipt with a housing application number on it. We will file this until after the decision’s are up (February 10) and he is given a date to sign up for the actual rooms.

That said, although UF is no sure deal for anyone, I do expect him to be admitted. He is a top student at his school with decent test scores and EC’s. He is also a legacy since his sister graduated from UF in 2010.
