As we all know, UF has gotten rid of early decision for this upcoming set of applicants. Now that there is only one application deadline, how late is too late in terms of coming close to the deadline if you are set on living on campus the first year and would definitely like some preference when selecting your housing?

While I have completed the application except the essay, turned in my transcript and submitted my test scores, I don't want to rush into sending the application. However, I still feel the pressure of sending the application in and (if admitted), be left with whatever housing they give me or none at all.

Basically, how close to the November 1st deadline would you apply, still feeling comfortable that you will get decent preference with housing? All opinions are appreciated

As soon as your essay is done (checked by a guidance counselor or teacher and you are happy with it), SEND the application. Your housing priority number is assigned when you apply for housing, which is about 3 weeks after they have your application. This one application period is new this year so no one really knows when the magic day is that they run out of on campus housing. You should be ok if you get it done by the end of August. I would guess that the students who apply just before the deadline will have to settle for anything (permanent triples etc) on campus.

BUMP...Anyone else? Another poster said if you applied in september you would still be in the clear...

No one knows the answer to this question since this is the first year with one app date and no one can possibly know what to expect. The question is why would you want to wait? If something comes up like a big award or something you want to add after you have applied you can always file an addendum since they are not going to make any decisions until November 1 anyway. There seems to me no disadvantage to applying too early but plenty in applying too late. I'd get it over with and enjoy your senior year.

True, didn't know it was possible to add on. Thanks imdamom
