We will be visiting CU in the next few weeks with our son. Is there anyone here that has been there and what were your impressions.

Our son is significantly above the SAT and grade stats that seem to be thir medians, but we like the description of the school from publications as well as from some people we know that have sons or daughters there.

Any information about merit aid would also be greatly appreciated.

For anyone that is interested, we did visit a few weeks ago and were very impressed. I liked the school a lot, as did my son. He is definately going to apply there. The chthedral adjacent to campus was magnificent, btw.

The kids were all pretty cool and the program and facilituies were great too. The proximity to DC and the Metro line right on campus was a big plus too.

I'm a student at Catholic University. I just finished my second year. I am a piano performance major. If there are any questions about the school or surrounding area etc. Don't hesitate to ask me. I will be more than happy to help if I can!

Thank you so much for your response and offer. CC seems not to have that many people who have interest in Catholic, but my son does.

There are a few questions that you can answer for us:

First, how do you like the school overall? Are you happy with your choice, and is the presence in DC all that the tours and materials make it out to be?

Do the students really get involved in and utilize all the resources and activities that DC has to offer?

The neighborhood is not the best. Have you had any problems w/ that, or are you comfortable living in that part of town? Is that issue overblown or are there valid concerns? Are you happy with the security on campus?

Are the profs accessible? Are you happy with the level of access to them in your area of study?

Do you know any students in the history or polysci majors? Are they happy with the profs and the program?

Are you happy with the dorms? What would you say to an entering student about dorms, selection of one, etc? How's the food service?

Are you familiar w/ the Honors Program and what are your thoughts?

I know that these are pretty broad and numerous, but any information you could provide on this or any related topics would be GREATLY appreciated. And, again, thanks for your time.

I'm visiting this month, it's my first choice for a college.
:)
While their acceptance rating is 80% degree, how hard is it to get in their music program??

Please. Been fishing for info on Catholic for a long time. Interested in the biomedical engineering program.

Two graduates from our high school attend, one is a musical theater major, and the other is going to be a priest. So, not much in common with son’s choice of major.

Anyone with info asked above, like dorms, food, professor accessibility, opportunities for internship/coops?

My son visited Catholic last Spring but decided to attend Loyola University Maryland. Catholic seemed very nice but he just liked another school better. The kids seemed nice and the campus was clean. The architecture labs were impressive as was the work the students were doing in them. The food was ok, typical school food, nice size and we felt the surrounding area was fine contrary to what we were told. Nice school.

I am also visiting this school in a couple of weeks. Does anyone have any opinions on the Business / Finance program? I am also applying to American and GWU, but I have always liked CUA and know the location, etc.

My son and I are visiting this month, and he is also interested in business and finance. I will post after that or email you. We live nearby and have close ties with the university. The music program is very well thought of and has a nice building. The students seem to have a lot of performance opportunities. Architecture is also a great program. Engineering is good, too. I work with many people who received masters and PhDs in engineering from Catholic. The school discourages cut throat behavior and excessive stress and difficulty in courses, and I like that. It’s a nice campus. The times that I have visited, students seem to be happily chatting, boys are tossing footballs on the lawn, etc. The sports building is very nice. U Maryland has a very somber atmosphere in comparison.

I’m visiting on November 23rd. I am in Utah, but used to live in DC. And actually, my best friend and father of my goddaughter lives right near CUA and offered to let me live with them for free if I decide to move back to DC for school (I’m sure some free babysitting will be involved!).

I have actually interested in Finance and Philosophy, probably a double major. So CUA may work out as I’m sure their Philosophy program is good.

Definitely let me know your thoughts on your tour!

I visited over the summer and found it to be a very pretty school, lots to offer, had a comfortable feel to it - very familiar for anyone who’s attended Catholic schools in general. Food was good, metro is easy to use, neighborhood is a worry, course load seemed very traditional. Not sure that the majors match what my d wants in terms of gov/political science/international affairs/global studies. Free laundry is talked about a lot and it is nice but most students get help from parents for that money anyway. Sports were attractive for that division level, good spirit without it being over the top.
