any alternative ways to pay for college?

so I’m 19 and currently working 2 jobs to save for school. I’m also taking a few online classes at community college. I have no way to pay for school.

My EFC is 0
I got 5000 in federal loans.
i graduated Hs with a 3.2 GPA, and I didn’t get any scholarships. I applied for countless amount of outside scholarships, and didn’t get a single one.

both of my parents have terrible credit, and can’t cosign a student loan.

I’m not even close to being able to afford the yearly tuition at my instate public university, Pitt, which is almost 19,000 a year…

My friend had the same exact problem, so he went to a CUNY school for very cheap… which is what I decided to do, but I’ve applied 3 times… and was denied from all of the schools I applied to, all 3 times!!

anyone have any advice? I’m losing my mind…

also… does anyone know why I keep getting denied from all CUNY schools, every time I apply?? has this happened to anyone else?? are they THAT popular? i mean if I can get into Fordham, why can’t I get into a CUNY school? I love queens college the most.

Have you Googled the Common Data Set for the schools that rejected you? You might find some info in there. Also, are you sure your recommendations (if required) are solid? Did you have any disciplinary actions in HS?

If your ACT or SAT are low, study hard and try again. That can help.

A lot of students attend community college for two years, then finish at a 4 year. A nonflagship (and not Pitt) might be cheaper for the last 2 years. There are other public Us in PA besides Penn State and Pitt. If your EFC is zero, are you eligible for a Pell Grant? That and your federal loans should come close to covering community college loans.

See if your closest community college has an agreement with any 4 years for guaranteed admission, too. And you might be able to live st home and commute to a 4 year, too.

You should call Queen’s College and ask, maybe you’re just omitting something from your application.

You are an out of state student for SUNY and CUNY schools if you are an instate resident for Pitt.

How will you pay the OOS costs and the living expenses in NY.

Why are you not considering any of the 14 PASSHE schools (the true state schools such as West Chester, Bloomsburg, Slippery Rock, Millersville, etc.)? With a $0 FAFSA EFC, you would get your tuition and fees to those schools all or mostly covered by federal (Pell ) and state (PHEAA) grants. You might also get a SEOG grant. Add the direct loan and earnings from full-time summer and part-time school-year work, and you would probably have enough to cover room and board or share an off-campus apartment and cook for yourself. It would be even easier to afford if you go to community college for 2 years and transfer to one of the state schools for the last 2 years. You could bank all or some of the student loans for the first 2 years and use that money towards housing/food the last 2 years.
