what is the difference between Ervin Scholar and Rodriquez Scholar? the essay question they ask are incredibly similar...is it okay if i use the same essay for both?

i'm not an AR scholar i'm an ervin so i can answer the second question. historically the ervin program was for black students and the rodriguez program was for hispanic students however now that both have integrated they are indeed very similar. i think that the admissions committees for each scholarship are different so you may be able to use the same essay but i'm not 100% sure. the rodriguez program is a lot smaller than the ervin program, each class is about the same size, 20, however each class in the ervin program has gotten bigger with our class being the largest at 52. the ervin program also doesn't have an actual class associated with it which the rodriguez program does. and one final difference is that the rodriguez program has a family structure in which they have "parents and siblings" where as the ervin family isn't as structured but just refered to overall as the ervin family. both scholarship programs are amazing programs and it is possible to be both an ervin scholar and a rodriguez scholar.

thank you for the info amu! do you know how many ervin scholars receive full scholarship? i read somewhere that they only give out four... is that true or are there more??

well i think almost all of us have full scholarships. out of the 52 freshmen i only know of two with half but i also don't talk to a lot of people about the money. i do know that there are more than four with full scholarships however, as my really close friends and i have talked about this same thing.

Does the same hold true for Rodriguez?

type in "annika rodriguez" into facebook, and you should find a group of scholars.

um, i think the same does hold true for AR. however, the only people that I know for sure that got half scholarships also got full Ervin Scholarships. I can't be sure b/c i jsut don't know as much about this program.

Rodriguez Scholar here. In general, there is enough money to award at least one full scholarship in each school (artsci, architecture, art, etc). Other than that, we don't talk about who got what money either. technically anyone who comes to the finalist weekend and then comes to wash u is part of the program, so you won't know who got money and who didn't. Also, I was in architecture, and that is the easiest one to get a full scholarship since it is a much smaller school with less applicants. Just to throw that out there!

We like you to be yourself. No lies, we will find you out when you come interview, since those who interview you (scholars themselves!) also read your essays. Be personal, be emotional, be practical, tell us stories. Though, I totally said the words "I want to save... the world." in my interview. I don't recommend that, I felt very cliche and nerve-wracked for saying it. Practice talking about your dreams, with a little bit of back-up from your accomplishments. We really are interested in people who will add to our program either enthusiasm for the things we already do (look at our website) or who will start something new (which freshman do).

I don't think its taboo to use the same essay.

is the AR scholarship for hispanic students only
how about an asian intl appplicant?
